Finally a match made in Fargo

The shot she played in the winning rack is a big reason why I feel the top Asian women can play with men because they play a more aggressive manly type game when necessary instead of the overly cautious duck & play safe game I see from a lot of other women.

Wow....congratulations to Chen Siming....
....and Mike Page

...and Jay Helfert for calling this result long ago

Siming won 15-13!

Well... Jay was right again. I think Donny was overly nervous. I watched it until it froze the first time when the score was something like Donny up 5 - 4. He miscued once on a fairly non-mis-cue type shot when he was dead out in one game and then missed several shots he never misses... not making excuses, though. She played pretty much lights out. First time I've seen her play. Tons of talent. Congrats to her.

This is pretty much what I thought when I first saw her play, that she shoots like a man pro. Really the only way to describe it. Only a few women players shoot like men, with the same hit they put on the cueball and style of play and saves.

Not sure how well DM can move with the Magic Rack but I'd bet he isn't helpless.

They both seemed to be breaking very hard and controlling the CB very well, for most racks. Yet, both seemed to come up dry on the break the majority of the time. This is from memory, I was not keeping close track.

Finally a reality check. I will personally come on here and admit if I'm wrong but I think Donny is going to take this down. It would be cool to see a three day type thing where they played 5-10 sets. This would be REAL data instead of one data point.

Time will tell.
It's official...wrong. I still don't believe her Fargo but she plays great.

Not only Jay but Rhea too.

Yeah, I imagine more than a few picked her. I picked Donny because I know him and I watched him grow up. And I know, first-hand, how crazy-good he plays. And that ain't just whistlin' Dixie, either... but, again, she played extremely well. In all aspects. Hats off to her.

For me, all this proves is that some of the very best women players can win matches against the top men as well. There are far more excellent men players than women but there are a few women who can compete on even terms with the top men. Once again, I'd love to see a tournament or tournaments where maybe eight to ten of the best women players were included. I'm sure there would be some surprises but it's doubtful one of them would win the tourney. Given time it could happen though.

Just last year Karen Corr finished second at Turning Stone in a stacked 128 man field. And this match between Siming and Donny is not the first time a woman has beaten a top male player. I can go all the way back to Pan defeating Shane in the World Pool Masters. I was refereeing the Race to Eleven and she pulled ahead only to have Shane come back and take the lead. We thought that was it, but she fought him tooth and nail to win 11-10. It was a great match and she had to outplay Shane to win it.

Corr's demolishing of Ko Pin Yi (11-3) in the U.S. Open three years ago was also something to see. She took it to him and just ran rack after rack. He looked pretty helpless to do anything. I also remember when Gerda beat Earl in an IPT match. He was livid! So this match last night is not a first by any means. Viva la girls!

P.S. Just for the record. Of all the women I've seen play over the years (including the great Jean Balukas who beat many men!), Siming Chen is the best I've ever seen. Her game is pretty air tight, without a real weakness anywhere. She is definitely a world class player, far better than most shortstops and low level A players.

To Donny's credit, if they played again, he might beat her. They are pretty closely matched. Donny Mills is a class act all the way. I watched online how he conducted himself after it was over. He congratulated her on the win and was a gentleman at all times. I really like this guy. He would be a plus for our Mosconi Cup team imo. If I was ever the captain I would seriously consider adding him.
