Finding local tournaments?

Why is it so difficult for me to find local tournaments? Am I just not looking in the right places? I want to get out there and get some experience in competition outside of APA leagues.

My question is Where do you find tournaments local to you? Is it alway word of mouth or existing pool room visits or is there a number of websites or apps that you use?

I toyed with the thought of creating yet another large site to list all tournaments, but I've seen this fail before. If there was a comprehensive list of sites or places we collectively find them, perhaps these places could have the data consolidated into a central location...

On the main forum page there is sticky "Go Play Pool" which will list the poolrooms in your state along with their telephone number. Call them and ask if they have any tourrnaments. Or you can try google.

pool4u.com

There is a Internet site called pool4u.Com
They have alot of info for local pool tourneys all around the country. There is a place where u type in where u are looking for tourneys in your area and they pop up alot of Weekly tourneys at local bars/pool halls in your area. Very useful website. Hope that helps anybody looking for local tournes in there area.

Oh and anyone looking to post or advertise a pool tourney. Pool4u.com allows you do do that also. Which is great for letting people know of tourney info, whether it's a one time tourney or a weekly tourney. Again. Hope this helps everyone. Cause anyone anywhere can find tourneys in there area on that site. Thanks

That site did not give me any results for Louisville, KY. I think the best thing to do it to just get out there and go to all of the pool halls that can be found on google maps (for example), and ask around about weekly tournaments. I remember when I lived in St. Petersburg FL, that area had this great app that showed all of the weekly tournaments in the entire county, and there was always something going on on just about every night of the week (this was back in the late 90's). I imagine that area still has a great pool scene though.

Thanks everyone, I'll start calling around. It seems a shame in this day and age there isn't some giant directory of tournaments, but that's not a problem I really give a shit about solving outside of finding tournaments for me...

Which I suppose explains it.

Well in PA, there are a couple facebook sites that advertise tournaments.

On is Amateur Pool Tournaments in PA

and there is another which I don't remember.

If someone in every state would start a site on facebook, it would be all easy.

Just start out Amateur Pool Tournaments in ______ whatever state.

It is a fluid thing, tournaments come and go. It is nearly impossible to keep most local type lists accurate it seems, much less a national level list. Greg Sowder keeps a list going on his website for the Portland/Vancouver area that I think is pretty accurate..... but its rare from what Ive seen in other areas.

Facebook seems to be the place where mos of the local pool players hang out and talk about local tournaments. Make some FB friends that play pool locally and you are in, UNTIL YOU START PLAYING BETTER THAN THEM.

I entered my zip code and it came up "no tournaments within 60 miles of your location" which is funny as Steinway, Raxx, and a number of other NY rooms which have tournaments are much less than 60 miles!!

Don't be discouraged if you call a pool hall and the person answering the phone doesn't have a clue about tournaments or leagues. You may do better by simply going to a pool hall and asking a few players...
