A Banger isn't necessarily a beginner (beginning denotes starting at the correct place) nor is it necessarily a person who doesn't win a lot, ...It is a person who doesn't CARE about the game enough to acquire the knowledge needed to play better.

A Banger runs the cue ball 5 rails into the corner to impress his girlfriend every time he goes out to the bar/poolhall.

A player follows up behind him and runs the cueball 9 rails and lands on a twenty and lands a new girlfriend in the process. :)

Better one would be the guy tries the 3 rail, maybe you're playing one on the 8, three on the cue, or last pocket. Then he kicks 3 rails but puts reverse english and wonders what happened.

A banger is anybody who is significantly worse than yourself. If a B player walks into a pool hall he can find some bangers. If the same B player enters a tournament with pros the B player becomes the banger.
