Hi, folks. Been lurking for a while now but been hesitant to post. Lots of world class players here I've been noticing. Just a bit intimidating.

Anyway, I finally scratched off two items from my "Bucket List":

- Own my own home before I die
- Install a quality pool table in my home

Bought this place right before Christmas, just a couple months shy of my 60th birthday. Nice dry walkout basement, but it's a modular home so it has LOTS of steel support columns in the way. Biggest table I could squeeze in was an oversize 8'.

After looking at numerous used tables and realizing how hard these things are to set up, I went with a A.E. Schmidt OS 8', completely refurbished (new finish, cushions, and Simonis 860 cloth) and installed by Don Bartholomay, one of the best restorers and mechanics in the country. I am ticked pink with it and am down there knocking balls around every chance I get.

There is one support pole that gets in the way on more shots than I thought it would, but I am having a steel girder put in to support that span and that pole will be history.

This is a pretty easy table compared to those Diamonds all the pros are playing on, but it plays sweeter than any of the GC tables I used at the local pool room before it closed, maybe because it was set up so carefully. It's a much nicer table than a hack like me deserves, but I plan on putting some time in on it to elevate my game some.

I will have plenty of stupid questions in the months to come, but I'm sure there are plenty of patient members here to help an old buzzard along.

Welcome Sloppy!

This forum is a treasure trove of information, some of it accurate, all of it entertaining in one way or another. Enjoy that table in your home. I installed one in my home, after ogling one for 35 years or so. It's been the best 5 years of my game, so far. And it's great fun to work at getting better. (It's not work if you're doing something you love!)

Best,

Brian in VA

The only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask.
