I just wonder if there any AZers' who use a Fitness Routine or Program for staying in shape for PoolPlaying. Other Than the six or twelve pack exercise:thumbup: :groucho:

I wonder which cueball they are using:

Nick Varner had his personal trainer watch him break for a bit to find out what exercises would be best to improve Nick's break. This was when the IPT first came out and Nick's 8-ball break wasn't where he thought it should be, it's the only time I have ever heard of anyone focusing on certain muscle groups for anything related to pool.

He even had the trainer give him exercises that he could do in a hotel room so that he could work out while traveling anywhere, pretty good thinking there.

I used to do hi-level competitive cycling. I don't feel it helped my pool at all.

Pool did help my cycling tho. Pool tables are great for stretching the legs.

Any ideas what those exercises were?

Either one of those muscle guys can get played in any of the rooms where there are players. I have yet to see someone that dedicated to lifting weights that can run out. I know others have said they have seen good playing body builders but I havent. Personally, whenever I lift weights I must play about a ball or two worse, easy.

fitness and pool

I had to jump in here, I make my living as a personal trainer, and I consider myself to be an amateur bodybuilder. I am as big a fanatic about playing pool as I am lifting weights. The only anecdotal evidence I can give regarding how fitness has improved my game is more endurance and focus during long (4+) hour pool sessions, and my break is about 6mph faster, compared to six years ago when I was 30 lbs lighter and never lifted weights. I don't think fitness is a huge issue because I have seen some guys, that were morbidly obese and still could run racks all night long. I think age has a lot worse effect on one's pool game then being out of shape. I haven't figured out a way to beat father time. <Thttp://ptclinic.com/medlibrary/pdf/208.pdf> this website has a few basic rotator cuff strengthening exercises that could improve your power and control, plus they are just good for overall shoulder health.

Jesis.

Everything is not pool. Exercise for your own well-being and it will improve ALL aspects of your LIFE.

I Really Doubt There's A Colleration Between Pool And Fitness,,,,,,even Though I Work Out 4x/week Now,[more During The Winter Months].....i Have Nec=ver Tried To Do ''exercises'' That Would Help My Pool Game,,,,

Of Course Overall Fitness Is Great For Everyone Just To Make Simple Chores Alot Easier,,,,,,,i Would Never Have A Drink While Working Out, Yet,i Enjoy A ''few '' When I Play Pool........

Everything In Moderation Works For Everyone,,,,,,,,,,,,

A few years ago at the trade show in Kansas City I remember these two big buff guys wanted to see how fast they could break. They were talking trash of course egging each other on, I think they couldn't break faster than 17mph. They got angry to say the least, especially when someone with much less muscle mass than them broke faster.

The only person that I know of that did body building and played short-stop level pool is Bobby Yamasaki, click here to see an article/interview.

I defiantly think exercise can help your game. Both in stamina and concentration. I know more than a few pros who include exercise as part of their training, including Mika and Jennifer Barretta. Jennifer's husband is one of the best known personal trainers in NYC and worked with Mika. Years ago, before Jenn made it to the pro tour, we went to PA to play in a Qualifier. She was playing a woman, I knew was a much better player (at the time) but it was the last match and she kept making careless errors, I could tell she was just tired. Jenn, looked just as strong at 8pm as she had at 9am in that morning and easily beat her.
I know personally that when I work out regularly, I sleep better and think more clearly, both I think help me to play better...

I work out 3 times a week, and run 5 miles a day 5 days a week. I don't think it has helped my 9ball game much, but it has improved my one-hole action!
