Fixing the game of 9 ball.

I've heard hand cranking it can be considered a sport to, provided its done at a minimum strokes per second, otherwise is just considered playing around! I've also heard it can be played by oneself, or in some areas of the world, with others as well. Its best played when youth is on your side, as the older one is, the harder it is to make it to the finish line. 😅🤣😂

To be a sport, there has to be an element of danger.

In golf, one can be hit on the back of the head with a golf ball traveling over 100 MPH--this will cause the receiver to have a bad day. Also, down in Florida, one may encounter Alligators.....

I can't see any situation in pool where the competitor could have such a bad day as above.

I don't think the rules of 9b are the thing that holds back pool.

So the 9b rules are bad, because look at all the rules changes have occurred. Solution: change the 9b rules. LOL, you can't make this stuff up.

So sky diving you would consider a sport, instead of an activity right?, because you risk hitting the ground at over 100mph?

An activity can be considered a sport if it involves ...
  • Competition between two or more individuals or teams;
  • Rules of play that allow a winner to be determined;
  • A primary goal of victory;
  • Victory determined by the relative physical ability of the competitors, although strategy and chance may also play a role.

I personally don't consider either golf or pool a sport.

IMHO, a 'sport' is a contest between either individuals or teams. Wherein the real time actions of the opponent can effect the play of the other.

Fans of golf will say that another player's score may play a role in how their opponent opts to play a shot, (eg: try to reach the green in 2 rather than lay up). However, that is a choice not a forced situation. Now pretend the golfer's opponent was running full tilt at him/her. This forces the golfer to perform whatever he can before being tackled, (=sport).

Fans of pool will make the same argument, and claim that the position the opponent puts the other player will determine how he plays his next shot. To some extent that is correct. However the shooter can still do whatever he wants and is not forced into error my his opponent. We can used the same tackling situation for pool as well.

Rereading the above, I guess I'm thinking that reaction time is a key component in what makes sport, a sport.
Table tennis = sport
Gymnatics = not sport
...etc

I hurt my knee pretty bad one time by running into the coin slot on a bar table. SPORT!
