I went to check on a cue that I was bidding on this morning and it looks like the auction ended early and all the bids were retracted. Can this happen with out me being notified? Do I have any recourse? Can I report the @#$er?

Inquiring minds want to know.

sellers can end an auction early as long as its more than 12 hours to go, the option is there in case the item gets sold locally, but most use the option if the item is not getting the price they want.

That is just not right.

I agree, that option is abused all the time. Fleabay doen't care because the seller still has to pay the listing fee.

Unfortunately it can. Be sure to always push the " watch this item " button on items that you are bidding on. That way it puts it in your " My Ebay " section for you to monitor progress. If it was ended by the seller there will be a notice in your "my ebay" stating that the seller has ended the listing early and the item is no longer for sale. Hope this helps! BigJohn

You might not think it wasn't right if it was your item and it just wasn't generating the bids you had hoped for. After all, a bidder has lost nothing except the hope he/she was going to get a good deal on something. Putting a reserve price on the item really helps, however, it damn near doubles the listing fee so a lot of sellers don't want to go that route. ebay a while back made it more difficult to end an auction early in order get the extra fees. For what it's worth, that's my take on it.

Ending an auction early is unethical in my opinion. It's really frowned upon for buyers to retract a bid(they tell you when you make your bid your are entering a contract), the same should go for sellers.

Start your auction at a higher initial price if you don't want to get less for it than you expected.

For what it's worth, that's my take on it.

I don't understand sellers who panic with more than 12 hours to go, thinking they aren't getting what they want, and pulling the auction. I've done many auctions on eBay and I always put the item starting at 99 cents, and guess what? Invariably it sells for fair market value 99.9% of the time. Sometimes the bids don't come in until the last 30 seconds, or even last few seconds, to make it happen -- but it does. I've had several items double, triple in bids in the last 60 seconds. That's just the way it goes.

Sellers who end auctions with 12+ hours to go have no concept of watchlists (people who are waiting to bid at the last moment), sniper programs, etc.

Let's cut to the chase:

They have no ethics or BALLS, but, they're prolly successfull.

Here is what I failed to mention earlier, they have a "shill" proxy in to push it up, if nobody beats the shill proxy just before 12 hours they cancel the auction. Thats the game.

Agreed,Ebay created this problem years ago by charging outragous reserve fees. The same can be said for bidders who wait til the last minute to "snip" bid..that should be banned too:D If your really interested in a cue bid your highest amount right away so the seller knows your not another low ball'er:eek: The seller is the only one who has paid anything to take a shot at selling something on ebay and the bidder pays nothing until he wins. How about a small upfont fee to the seller...say a buck just for the oportunity to bid..would that be fair? I've seen azer's complain here about sellers not listing prices or who was the first one to pm a bid to get a cue...so its never going to be perfect for everyone

So you bid on the cue nad then it happens,Auction cancelled, bids retracted. You cry Ethical violation when you know none of the facts.Could it be cue stolen? Cue damaged and not saleable? House burnt down along with cue?Sellers remorse? Your out nothing and yet you want a pound of flesh. Are you entitled to a evidentiary hearing to determine if the owner had the right to do other than what they have decided?Do you think you,as the potential buyer, should determine the opening bid for someone else's Item? Here is the simple solution: Find another Item.

Yes dammit. I'm not the one that put the item up for auction. Lets see them try that at a real in person auction. putting a bid on an item is binding, puttin an item up for auction should be binding too. I sell things on ebay too, I make sure the initial bid is high enough on what ever I'm selling to meet my needs.

This retracting auctions is a pile of crap as far as I'm concerned.
