flying with case

Coleman duffel

On Overstock.com they have a 32 inch rolling duffel bag that Coleman is making. I think it was about 70 dollars. Works great.

Eagle Creek

Google "ORV Supertrunk" to find the current best price on this bag from Eagle Creek. You'll typically find them at REI, outdoor 16, and sporting goods stores.
I just ran it and found them from $225 to $400 on line.
GREAT bag, large enough to fill up with a weeks worth of clothes after you get a 2x4 case in, rolls great, very sturdy, and the best is it comes with a "No Matter What" warranty which means that they will fix it or replace it, no matter what.
Used one of these for several extended trips, US Open, SBE, DCC, across country, to Europe and back, never a problem.
Not the cheapest solution, but the TSA isn't going to get smart anytime soon, and if you plan to travel more than once a year to play pool, it's the last bag you'll buy.

I didnt want the luggage guys in the back opening my suitcase and slipping a cue out of there quickly so I did this to it the last few times Ive gone to Vegas.

That mummified case then goes into a wheeled duffel.

I put my cue case in my luggage, so I don't have to be charged for two checked bags. If you buy a 30 inch sized suitcase, it will lay diagonal in the suitcase easily. A 29 inch well only hold some pool cases.

Travelling with cue

From what I can see most of the rolling duffel options listed so far exceed the airlines maximum dimensions of 62" so it's a crap shoot whether you will be stuck with an extra charge for oversized luggage. (Around $100 round trip with most airlines)

I found this case which is under the 62" max and at 36" long will fit any cue case as well as plenty of other extras. It is made by a drum case company called Beato and is nicely padded inside so combined with your cue case will provide plenty of protection. The price isn't too bad either.

Well to avoid airline fees, I recommend an American Express Platinum Card, they give you a $200 airline credit per year for any additional charges you incur on an airline of your choice. It's not that much if you travel alot but it's better than nothing.

Have flown a lot with a nylon cue bag bought at a tournament. I like it because we can fit two lean cue cases (a 1x1 and a George 2x4), plus we can stuff clothes and shoes in, too.

Don't like that on a recent United flight to Chicago, it was considered "Special" based on it's size and shape, requiring signatures and extra handling fees. Hadn't had that happen before.

Also on that trip, we got to the hotel and opened the cue cases to find the cues had been inserted backwards. Didn't like the feeling of knowing strangers touched our cues.

3-Piece Travel Cue Revisited

Just wanted to show my 3-Piece Travel Cue (made by Sheldon Lebow) again along with its custom case made by John Barton.

The roller luggage is about 22-24". In other words, it's a standard one that I would normally use as carry on. The case fits diagonally and packs inconspicuously .

And a handful of people at the DCC hit with it, so they can comment on the hit.

The case was real winner at the DCC, too!!!

see you there!

I've flown a lot with my cues both domestic and international. I always pack my cues in their case in a large duffel bag with a hard bottom and pack it to the brim with clothes. I try to make it so that if a thief were to try and steal my cues, they would have to unpack EVERYTHING to even know that there are cues in the bag. The best thing you can do is just make it look like you have nothing valuable inside (having cheap looking luggage probably helps as well, rolling your stuff around in a Gucci suitcase is just like inviting thieves to take a look).

I have never had a problem checking my cues this way after many dozens of flights.

It looks like Cornerman has a 3 piece cue, not a traditional 2 piece. That's why it will fit in a carry-on.

How do Snooker players ship their 3/4 length cues?

Check out the Mini Monster bag at rangeroutfitters.com for $89. I've got one and it's the nuts!

Can you tell me more about your experiences with this one? Can you fit a Jack Justis case in this? It come in at 62 linear inches, which doesn't tick off an oversized baggage fee.

travel case

I have traveled everywhere with my haliburton-zero.Ihave it inspected from my original departure location where the tsa person puts a special label on then I lock it and have never had a problem or extra charge. It easily can accomodates 5butts & 10 shafts so often my teammates put their cues in also.Very secure.

Carryon

Saw a post a while ago about people carrying cues on te airplane as a carry on. A lot of people replied that it wasn't true.
At the airport right now waiting to board plane. Saw someone walk across me with cue case. I walked over talked to him. Had the cue inside. He said it was fine.
Hes flying AA. They must have changed policies recently?
