hi all,i'm about to fly for the first time with my cues.leave sunday for reno.have a hard case.the cues should be safe however i'm a little worried about not being able to lock it.should i be concerned.the flight is from slc to reno.not long.any advice and or sugestions.thanks george

Take everything out of the pockets and put them in your carry on. I just flew from LAX to JFK and Back with my cues. The cues were fine in the case. But to be safe I put the chalk, tip tools, and stuff in a zip lock and left them in my carry on.

Pack your cues and case inside your luggage, I went out last year and bought a big enough roller luggage bag so I could fit a 32 inch cue case inside . I have no problems at all....I heard to many horror stories.....< ED

Proper case

Joe has a real nise travel case to put your cue case in, its made of a nylon like material and has two zippers that can be locked closed. If you buy a airline lock that can be opened by a master airline key you can put it under the plane with out much concern of getting ripped and the additionl padding will protect you case.

I havent tried taking a case on a plane in my luggage yet, but I keep hearing that it works, not sure???

I always take my golf clubs to vegas and my cues and case easily fit in those cases. I think a golf travel case is agood option even if it does have clubs in it. I can fit all my clothes and cues and clubs in my target special case.

I bought a travel case I can put my regular case in. It's nice because I can use a TSA approved lock on it. Never just put your cue in your case and check it in. I had a friend get to derby a few years ago and his 5k cue disappeared.

You have a friend? :D

*Also puts his case(s) in his luggage along with clothing for padding and locks it up.

thanks everybody.lots of good ideas.i think i'll look for a luggage case to hold my cue case and other stuff.this trip my buddy is driving.he will take my case for a small fee.lol thanks again everyone. george

Do not make it obvious that you are checking a cue stick. A friend was going to a snooker tournament in India. There was tracking/scanning on all the luggage. His cue case -- a durable travel kind -- and stick never made it onto the airplane. They also never made it back to him.

I have a hard-backed duffel roller that is long enough to put my case in. It is also hard to get the cue out because I thread it through dividers in the duffel. I have resigned myself to the chance that the TSA may decide they need my cue more than I do.

What luggage cases are you using? I've been looking online, and most of the ones exceed the 62" linear rule for most airlines checked baggage.

Mine is from Eagle Creek. http://www.eaglecreek.com/bags_luggage/duffels/ORV-Super-Trunk-36-20292/
I have never had a problem checking it. My cue case fits snugly down the center on the bottom when I'm packing. It's guaranteed and about the second trip the luggage persons broke the stiff end that the wheels attach to and that lets the bag stand up. Eagle Creek fixed it for the cost of 1-way shipping.

Before this one, I had a large rectangular case but it was not quite large enough to take a hard case diagonally, so for traveling I used a soft case figuring clothes would prevent any luggage mishaps.

Im stuffing my case in my checked bag fits like a glove . Ill be traveling tomm from Korea to Georga tomm. Best thing to do is just put in a bag that will fit like an army duffle bag.

That's a concern for me as well... I've traveled with my cue in the past for tournaments and stuff but I was always driving or something like that we're it can always be with me. Is there a way to carry it onto the aircraft or dyou have to check it, and if so, what is the best application here?

I check it, here is what you can do find a green army duffle bag an instroke 3X7 fits it fine, mix it in with a junky comforter or something like that to fill the rest of the bag up put your name in big letter on outside of bag and just insure the bag.

The duffle bag is really good i ust to use it alot untill i found a much better military travel bag.

Ok, that's a good idea. I have insurance already when I travel so I'm not worried about that, I just don't wanna worry about having it stolen because that would really suck. My custom cues are total one of a kinds, and more importantly if I were to have them remade after something tragic like that happening, it would take about a year to do so, if they could be done at all. So I'm trying to look for a fool proof alternative here. Is there anyway to carry them onto the plane?

No. TSA won't let any airline do it...doesn't matter what they tell you online or at the ticket counter. I fly internationally with mine all the time, have done so since before they stopped allowing them to be carried on...no problems; I always put it inside a larger checked suitcase/duffel. Locks are irrelevant, since they'll cut those off if they can't open them (they only check a small percentage of bags, anyway). Never had a problem...insurance is a good idea if you've got something you can't stand losing, though. If you're traveling domestic and are really concerned, just overnight it to your hotel (with insurance!). If you look at the "what's in the case" video of Efren, you'll note that he sends his cues in a Justis case checked loose!
