Flying with your cue

I dont mind the cold....

I hear you on the flying thing.
Why the heck they call the building you sit in TERMINAL is beyond me:rolleyes:

As far as the cold goes we don't even start wearing coats until its at lest 10 degrees.
Yesterday morning > 22 below

I work outside so I don't mind the cold but on a Harley it get a little chilli when you go out below 30.
Im flying Soutwerst so I hope I make it back to tell you about the class.

I know that it is outlawed, but I saw A FEW guys flying to SBE with me a year or two ago that had a cue and soft case stashed inside an architects blueprint tube to carry on the plane. We were waiting in the boarding area. I saw that they had pool player insignias on their jacket so I inquired about what might be in the tube. The response was "pool cue" and it was okay because of the architects bluprint tube! I observed this with my two eyes. I was dumbfounded then and still am. No way would I ever try this. I use a Porper flight bag over my case or include the cue/ case in a larger wheeled bag as others have described. I pay whatever fees I have to.

Martin (still remembers when people smoked on airplanes)

Well then, carry your cue on the plane like they did. I suppose the idea is if they stop you hopefully they won't treat you like you were trying to get past security with a firearm. So if all they are going to do is not let you through, at least in the tube (securely taped) it might be protected enough that you could still check it and pay the fee (if any) for the extra bag. And allot more time in case you have to go back to the ticket counter. It better be packed well enough to check it into the belly because it will be too late at that point to put it in your luggage.

Good thing about being in China is that I get to travel with my cues as carry on baggage! Don't need to check in at all.
I've travelled between Singapore and China doing the same and its all cool as well.

When I flew to the states I basically had a JB case inside my larger luggage and it was all good. All is protected, regulations adhered and all the protection in the world.

Here's some pictures I took of how I packed.

Very dangerous, yes.

I suggest the you dress warmly flying on your cue up in the sky im sure it will be nippy I sure would not do it if I lean over a tad I will come crashing down to the ground. Will you or the cue hit the ground first come on people place your bets.:p

I have my money with the cue hitting the ground first.

Yes.
An old witch told me that she once had a bit too much witches' brew, mistook her cue for her broom, and almost killed herself.
No, it wasn't my first wife...

Are you allowed to shrink wrap you regular case? can you put a lock on a case and check it like that? I had a case bag but I cant find it now. I leave Friday morning to Dallas to attend Randy G's Pool School. No time to get a new bag before Friday. Any suggestions on checking your stick.

I'm not an expert, but I think I travel more than 99% of the people on the board. That still doesn't mean squat.

The shrink wrapping services are for international travel and are for theft deterrent.

I have not heard of a shrink wrapping service for domestic US travel. Additionally, the TSA will have every right to cut the shrink wrap to test the insides. I do not know of any TSA shrink wrapping service (where they would check first and then shrink wrap).

You can put a TSA lock (available at any WalMart) on your case and check it like that, if you want. But, it is pretty exposed and looks like a pool case. That being said, I was with Mike Lebron at the DCC one time while waiting for his "luggage." It was his case, no lock, with his cue in it. LOL!!!

Or you can pack your cues in a large enough suitcase (protect them well) and carry on your case.

Or you can buy a 3-piece travel cue and pack it in a smaller suit case, but maybe that's not an option

Freddie <~~~ Find your bag. Put a TSA lock on it. Good luck.

Checking it will still count as 1 piece of luggage. Following advice from AZ, I ended up getting a wheeled duffel bag. I was able to to pack my cues, case, and enough clothes for a 2 week stay in Las Vegas.

Here is one that meets the 62" luggage limit.

My wheeled duffle bag is just big enough to squeeze my Jack Justis Case in there. Maybe 36". It's a lot better than lugging (punny) a duffle bag with no wheels.!

Freddie <~~~ wheeled case carrier should be a standard accessory

Having had Southwest lose (and find) my cues and case many years ago I offer this advice. When you check in, ask to see the tag they apply to sort baggage to the correct plane and flight number. The ticket agent applied a BUR (Burbank) tag to my bag going to BUF (Buffalo). Took them a day to retrieve and forward the bag to my house in Rochester plus a $300 flight credit. Good luck!

Incidentally, my case was inside a Joe Porper Travel Bag somewhat like the one jazznpool uses to travel with. Had a colored plastic locking tie between the two zipper pulls. Only way I could think of to tell if my case was opened for inspection. TSA sometimes "forgets" to put the inspection tag inside your bag. The method worked great for years till the afore mentioned incident. Keep a second set of cues and case at the house in Vegas now. Hiding the contents of your bag from prying eyes is a good policy! Again, good luck.

I use a couple of bags to carry my cues/cases.

One is simple padded duffel cue case bag (like http://www.muellers.com/Porper-Small-Cue-Case-Travel-Bag,5688.html). With this one, I put some clothes and foams inside for additional protection. I check this bag as FRAGILE item. The bag is big enough for weekend trip.

Another is larger 36" wheeled drop bottom duffle bag (http://www.overstock.com/Luggage-Ba...-inch-Wheeled-Duffel-Bag/3627419/product.html). This bag is HUGE and I like having separate compartment for cue cases, shoes and etc.

Either bags are locked with TSA approved locks.

P.S. Also have Longoni hard cases but haven't use them in awhile. And Halliburton zero case which is rather large.

Hidy Ho <-- have seen Efren's and Busty's Justise case with airline stickers on 'em like they just checked them in
