I just needed to share this with everyone,
How important is the food we eat when it comes to playing pool?
Over the years I have seen many players that seemed to me to have taken it to the extreme so I thought. Now it seems to me the longer I live the more I am seeing that they were probably right.
Just recently I was hurt in a little accident while crawling under my motorhome to jack it up a little. It fell down crushing my chest. I was under it sideways so it broke 3 ribs on the right side and one on the left. Had some internal bleeding but that stopped after about 5 days. I would have gotten killed but the tires were still on it so it just kind of bottomed out when it came down and bounced back up. Kind of like swatting a fly. That was me. The fly.
But the healing up process has been very painful and challenging to say the least.
Nothing I did seemed to help this healing process along and I was really sick of taking those pain pills. It was time to get my brain back. But the body just seemed to just not be able to heal up very good. Nothing seemed to work. Ice, heat or massage, it just seemed futile.
Then I watched this documentary called Forks over Knives on Netflicks. It is about these doctors that did these huge studies for years in different parts of the world to study peoples diets and sickness related to what they ate.
Some famous person, I don't remember who, said that some day that the food will be the medicine. I'm beginning to think for sure that this is more true now than ever.
I'm pretty sure now that the food will not only keep us healthy but by staying healthy we can really enhance ones pool game. And I know there are so many of us out there , if we can play a little better would be willing to try many things. Including the food. Not only for life but for the game.
After watching Forks over Knives I got inspired. Nothing has seemed to help my pain or seem to help my healing. I went to Walmart and bought a bunch of healthy food. I know what to buy. It was pretty simple. No meat or by products of meat. Alot of veggies and some salad dressing.
My regular diet was Eggs in the morning and chicken with some veggies for dinner and some low glycemic bread. I was trying to be healthy and being diabetic I know what I can eat and what I can't. I thought I was doing pretty good. But my body kept hurting and was just not seeming to heal very good.
Basically all I did was cut out all the meat and byproducts of meat and to my surprise the next day I woke up with alot less pain. And this was a big relief believe me. So i thought am I just to this stage in my healing where I was just starting to get better or could the food be making the difference?
So I tried a little experiment on my own. I didn't want to just give up the food i liked unless it was of real benefit. So I ate my regular diet the next day. It was hard to lay down again to start when I went to bed and I woke up early from the pain like I had been. It was pretty tough again. Like a step backwards.
Screw this. I started right away in the morning eating the all veggie foods that I had bought and I kept it up all day. To my surprise it was easier to lay down when I went to bed that night, I slept 8 hours and the pain is about 80% less than it's been.
Here's a review of this documentary that inspired my new eating plan.

We saw a premier showing of this movie at the beginning of May 2011. It challenged us to change our diet which in six weeks has resulted in more energy, weight loss, better sleep, and a healthier attitude. Several months ago we watched the documentary - Food Incorporated - , which reveals the problems in the our food supply; - Forks over Knives - presents the solution. If you are interested in the science behind - Forks over Knives -, then the book - The China Study - by T. Colin Campbell, PhD is a must read. If you are interested in preventing and reversing heart disease, then the book - Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease - by Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., M.D. is a must read. If you are interested in all the other modern aliments that are now part of the American experience (obesity, cancer, diabetes, etc.), then the book - Eat to Live - by Joel Fuhrman, M.D. is a must read. This movie should be required in our schools! - Forks over Knives - has shown us that we can take control of our health by what we eat! -- And for those who think that the answer is to return to hunter-gatherer diet, I suggest that early man didn’t live long enough for a diet high in meat and fat to cause heart disease or cancer.

OMG IT WAS SO GOOD. so good. so good. so good. omg so good. unbelievably good, dude, good.
The basis of this film is great. Whole foods are the way to a healthier life and less disease. Taking a pill from the doctor is rarely the answer and many times leads to more problems. However, their statistics and studies are off. They claim that in societies where animal protein and dairy is consumed, there are higher rates of Cancer, Heart Disease, etc. These are studies based on corn fed beef, dairy filled with hormones and pasteurized from Cows that are corn fed, non-cage free chickens, etc. If these same studies were ever done with food in its natural intended state, the results would most likely be different. Some animal products are good for you and provide some nutrients you cannot get from non-animal sources. Either way, I agree with the majority of this film. Good food for thought.
I just wanted to share this with some AZers. I know some of you are really trying to bring your game to the next level. I know that the food is the way to go as far as your health. If you don't have your health you don't have pool.
Take a look at Forks over knives. As you all know I'm big on testimonials and it doesn't get any better than this. These guys dedicated like 20 years of their lives to these studies to try and help figure this all out. It's there for anyone that wants to learn.
This one hour of your life watching this will be well spent time. If it helps one person out there because of what I wrote here then it was time well spent for sure.
Have a great day. geno.............
