A quote from Bugsy (Perry Mariano) the stablemaster of Bugsy's Promotions
"He (Van Boening) doesn't know what to do with a hard shot," Mariano said. "He's good in pocketing. But he's lacking in creativity. There's a time when the balls will make it hard for you and that's his problem. I don't think he will be able to make it (winning the world championship) unless he has lots of luck."
Those are some pretty provocative words, but then Mariano went on to say this: "If he played in our national open (The BSCP Philippine National Pool Championship) he couldn't win."
Taken from Ted Lerner's latest blog, read the whole piece on the WPC07 site.
I don't think it's any kind of trash talk. I think it's just an opinionative assesment of seeing Shane up and close for the first time. Shane did take Jeffery (one of Perry's star players) 21-13 in a challenge match at Bugsy's Lair.
Perry must have a good eye for strengths and weaknesses of players if you look at the loaded line up of players in his stable.
I take no sides on this one, just thought it was pretty interesting.
I wonder if Shane didn't have so much hype preceeding him, would Perry assess him in a more positive tone seeing him play in person?
Interesting how the human mind works . . . .
