For Months Everyone Almost, was BASHING the IPT

;) Now IPT Talk is one of the Hot Forums, or AZ-Billiards.. Too bad the IPT is not being Televised on Mainstream TV, like ABC Wide World of sports, Fox, or ESPN :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

As I would love to see what everyone is talking about...

I still think that the lack of media coverage is a mistake. A very few of us even know this is going on. It needed at least some TV coverage to get to the masses:)
 
This is KT's goal. He's already got live audio and video to Europe on some matches. It's not as if he can just snap his fingers and get the press to air a 5 minute feature every night on this stuff.

How about even a friggin line in the papers. Nutin for 6 days. What kind of coverage is that for the masses to get involved. He has all the pool players and relatives, what about the rest of the world. Seems like a simple task for the Morris agency to get out press releases. After all the payoff in this tournament far exceeds many of the pay outs now being covered in the paper. The only one with more is the PGA tour. Senior British might pay out more.
No one has mentioned the spectators at the venue. How have they been? Has it just been relatives attending. Are there outside attendance fans and have them come back from day to day. What are the impressions by the lay person watching? There are oover 8000 poker players there, are they at least coming by and passing the word. They could be a big help in getting out the word. I am sure a large percentage of them have been pool players at one time. Gambling is gambling. This would have been a great opportunity to combine the games in some way.
Just get something in the sports section somewhere. My customers would be more impressed with that and to see the numbers of the pay out.
 
It is being broadcast in Europe, and it is in the Billiards magazines, you guys do subscribe don't you? But you are right the news media, print, radio, TV, have not covered it in the USA. That makes me suspect that the target audiance is indeed in Europe and maybe the rumors of the IPT being sold to a syndicate overseas are true.

I don't know how it is everywhere, but in our city, the only newspaper will not cover pool in any way, shape, or form. We have 6 of the top 15 WPBA players living here...nothing in the Observer. Two of them were in the IPT tournament....nothing in the Observer.
You can send out all the press releases you want...but you can't make the papers print them.
No wonder so many refer to the local paper as the "Charlotte Disturber"!

be patient. don't expect a miracle overnight. kt has done more for pool within the past year than anyone else has within the last 30.

He has done it for the pool player not the public. I say again , how hard could it be to get coverage in the friggin paper. The only way he helps pool, other than the players, is to get it out to the public. Papers cover live events, and if they don't you offer a little jelly roll. he he
 
To give out press releases is easy because you can pay the paper to run it, but for a paper to cover it, it's a different story. You can't force a paper to cover something they don't want to.
 
US coverage is important - both newspapes and TV. It's a real shame that the home of pool is not covering this event properly for the public to find out about it.

However this is the first tournament of 2006, so I think we should give the organizers time to build things up in the States, though I totally understand the frustration people living there must feel. Coverage in the UK has been reasonably good - 8ball is the game everyone here plays in the pub (slightly different rules) so it does have a chance of attracting 'casual' fans as opposed to hardcore pool nuts! Eurosport is accessible for many here and their coverage has not been great, but has improved as the tournament has progressed. Sky Sports here could do it so much better or even BBC.

I know the BBC website has had some updates - I don't read newspapers but I suspect the quality press is carrying a few lines reporting it, or at the very least it will have results listed.

It will grow, I'm sure of that.

The IPT has done a lot for both the players and the public already. Look at the internet coverage, the live broadcasts in Europe, the press releases, etc....

If you want the newspaper to print a pool event, it's going to be difficult because in their eyes, pool is not a sport that interests the mass public. With that being said, it will take a little time for newspaper to catch on that the IPT is here to stay for a while. Once they recognize that, they will cover the story.

Like I said earlier, be patient.

That is not called a press release...it's called a PAID advertisement...and no way could KT buy ads in every paper in the U.S. He MAY have purchased some ad space in the sports section of USA Today, but that would have been it...and for anyone to read it, it would have had to be a big ad, costing tens of thousands of dollars every day.

You are not talking to some johnny come lately when it comes to pool. If pool is not a sport that interests the public, tell me how much more the mass public is interested in things like, "lacross", tennis from croatia, how about Austria?,, 'Budapest?, etc, etc. Track from London? High school scores, Who cares about the Nationwide tour, or the Deutsche Bank in Germany? Not the mass public, but they are all in the paper today. You send it in they will print it. I have sent in results to papers all the time over the years and it gets printed every time. Quit protecting the IPT and admit their newspaper coverage could be better. Even in the scoreboard sections, something is better than nothing.
At least in Las Vegas they had an article today even though it was about Siegel but it did talk about the IPT and had a picture. But that should be nationally.
So according to you we should read about it in a month or so. Ha, ridiculous.

it appears that most high schools and colleges have a lacross team, a tennis team, and a golf team. This proves that these sports have mass appeal to the public. Have you seen or heard of a pool team in high school or college?

give the ipt some more time and be patient.

The point is those "minor" sports results are listed in the paper, and the masses do not follow them, they are their for the kids to participate in. Want to do a survey on how many kids play pool to how many play lacross or tennis, or even football. And for your information their are high school and college leagues. Always has been and always will be. We had a P.E. class at our pool room. High schools just don't have indoor space for that sport so local rooms if there are any have to volunteer. You are naieve if you think their are no college pool programs.
I will be patient, that is not the point. My point is, it is not hard to have information printed in the newspaper, that is the business they are in "news".

The newspaper will not print a word about pool here in San Antonio either.
The reason given, they do not want to deal with the IMAGE.
 
Everyone needs to be proactive in their areas. Google your biggest paper, or heck all of them, find out the sports editors emails and phone numbers and let them know they are missing coverage of the biggest tournament ever. Then do a press release for the coming tournaments a week or so in advance.

If everyone does their part locally, and if they get enough complaints/suggestions , they will start printing them. Why leave the decision up to an editor? With the internet, the printed word is fighting to stay alive and they take comments seriously! If they can increase readership or subscriptions, then they will print results of checkers!

Yeah, it would be nice if the IPT could plaster every news outlet with press releases, but if every fan could weigh in with the papers, we would have a groundswell of support that could make our media wishes come true. ;)
