For sale? List the price!!!

Is there a point to making a buyer PM you for the price? It`s annoying and prohibited on many other forums with For Sale categories. If you`re looking for the highest bidder, that`s an auction...there should be a separate category for that.

Forum Rules - 02-17-2012, 05:48 AM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a great deal of time and expense we have finally come up with a set of forum rules that may work. This new set of rules frees you up to buy and sell more items (including new), but before you buy or sell you need to understand the ground rules:

1) The entire forum is caveat emptor. Let the buyer beware. Neither AZBilliards nor any of its owners, employees or agents makes any claims concerning the value or usefulness of any item offered herein for sale. AZBilliards accepts no responsibility whatsoever for the content of the threads on this forum or for any of the merchandise that is sold here and does not do background checks or any other checks on individuals using this forum. AZBilliards is never to be considered a source of recourse for deals gone bad. We do not inspect merchandise, and we deny any and all liability arising from the use of this forum.

2) If you are going to participate in the " Wanted / for Sale " area of AZB, your items for sale or trade MUST be pool related or strictly offered for trade for a pool related item.

3) Any Posts without an Item For Sale, Trade or Wanted to buy will be deleted.

4) "Price check" threads are not allowed.

5) There will be no cash offers etc. for non-pool related items.

6) If you are going to post in another's sale or trade thread, if you are knocking their thread, you will receive warnings and bans as with regular rule violations.

7) You have no right to criticize or complain regarding pictures, prices etc.

8) Everyone is expected to participate in a civil manner and if there are violations, you may report them anonymously via the "report post " button in the upper right hand corner of each post.

9) Either buy from an individual or don't but knocking them is not an option.

10) It is also strongly suggested that you use an escrow service when making any purchase.

11) Over-active bumping is not allowed. If most of the replies to your post are bumps that is overactive bumping. Anything more than a single bump in any 48-hour period is over-bumping.

12) Your use of this forum reflects your consent of these rules and that you will in all ways hold AZBilliards harmless from any liability arising from the use of this forum.

13) All Questions and replies to questions should be done via PM and not in the sales thread. It will be considered a bump to do so. ( Dave Wilson )

As always, feel free to ask questions if you don't understand something.

I must have missed that rule, would you care to tell me which of these rules you are refering to.

Listings Should Include The Price But Won't

First and foremost....it's really poor taste to call this thread out for not having anything for sale or to buy when one doesn't also call out all the other threads on the Forum that do the "very" same thing via not having nothing being mentioned for sale or to buy.

The Forum rules enacted a year ago are basically a joke. The situation may be beyond the control of the Moderators but nonetheless the stark truth is people are posting basically anything they want.......from surveys, price checks, new cue photos, listings looking to trade appliances, cameras, watches, furniture, guns and essentially anything else that comes to mind when the listing merely says make me a cue offer.

At least the original poster of this thread brought up a topic that has some genuine merit, albeit still not within the Forum Rules. Regardless, until the Forum "consistently & uniformly" starts enforcing the Rules, one should sit on the sidelines and just report the post using the Forum's established procedure. But pointing out that a thread does not meet the Forum Rules on what's obviously a selected basis is akin to acting like the "Soup Nazi" on Seinfeld.

Here's the bottomline on having the price included with the cue for sale. The Forum has degenerated into a wasteland of sorts. A couple of years ago, including the price didn't invite the risk of criticisim from other posters about your cue's asking price. The cue price is soley determined by the seller. If the seller sets the price too high, the cue doesn't sell and then the owner winds up bumping it continuously for weeks on end, if not months, and eventually the price drop bumps start with threats that the cue will be going back in the closet if it doesn't sell shortly.

In the meanwhile, the seller's thread has gotten scrutinized by others and sooner or later some forum smuck throws a rock at the cue's price with their post. And then things go downhill form there even though the Forum Rules prohibit criticizing a seller's price. The seller defends the criticism of the cue or the price with their own reply post and blah, blah, blah...

So sellers of higher end cues (define that as you will) started listing their cues with details and photos but strived to avoid any discussion of price except via PM with each interested party. I know that doesn't help building any form of empirical information or data base about cue values but that's how the Forum believes it functions best. Any item listed for sale does not have to include any price and in fact, when an item is listed with a specific sale price and the item actually sells, the thread remains but the orignal sale price gets changed to "sold" so there's no history of any cue sale prices.

All things considered, items for sale should always include a price and for that matter, items looking to buy should also include a budget. I mean you can't expect to buy a 8 point ivory joint Ginacue with a budget of $1500. But there are more nuances on including a price range for a potential buyer since many buyers will spend more than what they had in mind when they see the right cue. I know I do that more often than not with my cue purchases but I've also been fortunate too.

So price inclusion absolutely makes sense but that's probably why things aren't going to change.

I don't see a difference between "pm for price" and "Price check" but if the moderators are fine with it so am I.

What's even worse is YOU starting a thread with NOTHING FOR SALE!!

And you've never bought or sold anything here, so....

TROLL ALERT

Everybody has a right to privacy when selling. It has nothing to do with trying to get a biding war going. I always give the same price to everyone and show no favorites.

As this is NOT as sale thread, NONE of the rules for posting in this forum apply.. except the one that the OP broke by creating the thread. As for those who think that having people PM for a price is the same as a "price check" post, you have much to learn. No one MUST have a price listed in their sale, nor MUST they have pictures. If you don't like a thread that has no pictures and requires you to take the unheard of step of PMing for a price, then pass the thread by. And this thread should be deleted soon, as the moderators have been made aware of it.

I beg to differ as the Wanted/For Sale section is a SUB-FORUM of the Main Category forum to which the rules were written for.

If you don't believe this, ask Mr. Wison or Mike Howerton and see if it is alright to call somebody a name or insult them on the W/FS sub-forum.

Other than having a picture that said "cry baby", I saw nothing that could be construed as name calling. And you are 100% correct. Actual name calling is not allowed in any of the sub-forums. That being said, the OP broke the rules without a shred of a doubt by creating this thread where it is not allowed. And I should have said that "None of the rules apply" in the sense of the sub-forum "Wanted/For Sale" rules. As there is nothing for sale, you may disagree, and post that you do in this thread...which would NOT be allowed if this was a viable thread in the sub-forum.
