I fully understand your need to increase revenue in order to provide us with the best possible experience on AZ.

However, auction ads IS considered a form of spyware, though not a malicious one.

The mere fact that an innocuous link to Ebay is REDIRECTED to their (auction ads) site, and they then place a cookie on my machine, is pretty much the classic definition of spyware.

For those people NOT seeing the pop-up warning, it's because your Security Settings are set too low. You are still receiving the auction ads cookie (aka SPYWARE), it's just your PC isn't notifying you nor asking for your permission.

This is INVASIVE behavior, which allows auction ads to potentially track my activities. That's the ENTIRE purpose of placing a cookie on a machine.

I'm sure they gave you the standard BS line of "we only compile data in the aggregate" Sound familiar? It's what all spyware companies claim.

Which platform and SW release each of us may be running is irrelevant. The issue is the auction.ads software itself. Just PLEASE get rid of the spyware program from AZ. It is the ONLY way to resolve this.

OK, now I have a better understanding of what people are seeing when they talk about this "ads" file.

I already have a trouble ticket open with auction ads to find out what this file is. I will disable this system until I get an answer from them.

However, this is the definition of spyware at wikipedia...

That is not in any way what auction ads claims that they do. They are simply setting a cookie in the browser marking where an ebay user is coming from. No different than you clicking a google link at the bottom of the screen and going to google before you go to the site that you clicked on.

If auctionads can't do that with a simple cookie, then I am done with them.

Either way, it is being disabled until I get an answer from them.

Ok, Auctionads tells me that they have the issue with the text file resolved.

Since I didn't get this earlier, I can't test it. Please let me know if any of you are still getting this popup for saving this file.

I just want to know why the sudden change to include us having the redirect? You trying to generate additional funding Mike? btw, my work blocks it altogether...I have to cut out the auctionads part and then surf on to eBay.
 
The auction ads stuff quit acting up with me for about a week. NOW IT IS BACK TO DOING THE SAME STUFF ALL OVER AGAIN. Mike----It is asking for a download once again.
 
I am on WinXP and Firefox 2.0.0.7 and I get this:

Same here, it was happening whether I clicked a link or not. As soon as I entered a thread, that's what I was getting.

Since I have blocked it from putting a cookie on my pc, no issues.

It is occuring on every thread I am opening as well.
