Foul on all balls

If my opponent bends over the table to shoot and once he gets up, half the balls are lodged in the folds of his stomach, am I to remember where those balls were? If the ALL BALL FOULS rule was in play all the time, people would be forced to avoid a situation like that. With cue ball fouls only, some players don't care what they move so they just lay all over the table and balls!

How many times have you seen a player move a ball before the shot and not move it back until after the shot was taken? They either don't know, don't care, or don't care to know the proper rules. I don't want to have to explain to someone that the ball needs to moved back before the shot is executed, and all the variances of another ball affecting the cue balls path and all that stuff.

So let's just play ALL BALL FOULS and be done with all the extra silly rules that come along with cue ball fouls only.

And people, get some self of pride! What kind of person do you want to be known as? A cheater or a true sportsman/woman! I would rather lose a game, match, set or anything, because I was honest enough to admit my foul, than to knowingly not admit to my foul just to win! My reputation and my word is most important, and on a big stage, I'm sure someone saw what you did!

Heard a story once (probably from this very forum) but I can't remember who the players were.

Road player is playing one-pocket with the fish. Fish wants to play all ball fouls. Road player asks fish if he's sure he wants to play that way. Fish says he doesn't want road player doing anything funny so all ball fouls. Road player obliges then takes his cue and pushes the whole rack toward his pocket; he says, "I owe one."

Seems to me that the simple rule should always be that if you touch any of the balls in play it's a foul.

Not so simple. Besides the TV matches in USA, that rule is applied routinely in all the British Commonwealth countries including Newzealand and Australia.
Next time, when you are in a pool room watch a guy with a pot belly stretching on a table for a unreachable shot and look for if u can see,how many balls are rearranged under his pot belly. Many times, it is not possible to notice the fouls made and in some cases it is totally impossible to notice such fowls.
Because of this difficulty in judging the fouls, that rule should be removed from the books. We have few pot bellies in the pool room I play. This is a Lunch Buffet and Fake Boob city, called Las Vegas.

Yeah, that is right. That pot belly is like a roller pin rolling on the dough ( balls):D :D:D

I'm not in the best shape myself and I think that's the worst excuse I've ever heard. If you're too fat to make the shot legally go ahead and use the bridge, or hit the gym.

The first situation is covered in the rules for cue balls fouls so there is no problem. Even with CB only rules it is a foul to move more than one ball, so that one is not a problem.

The second situation is similar. Not giving the opponent the option to replace the ball is also a foul under CB only rules, just as moving it back without consent is a foul. If the movement occurs during the through stroke then it might still be a foul if it ends up affecting the shot. After the balls settle the opponent has the option to replace the ball.

As for the last thing in your post, about playing with honor, I agree completely, but I'm afraid the reality is that many do not play with honor. I'm willing to wager that at least some people that claim they would call a foul on themselves because it is "the only honorable thing to do" see no problem with pattern racking even though it is expressly against the rules.

In any event I agree with you - I prefer to play all ball fouls. It just doesn't bother me that my league plays CB only rules if it keeps things more social. I certainly would prefer to see professional tournaments played all fouls.

That rule should be removed from the books. It causes, nothing but arguments, quarrels & physical fights. you can`t see the dough( balls ) being rolled by the roller pin ( Pot belly) when the player lies on the table for a shot that requires stretching.

The problem with all ball fouls during leagues is that it can become a method of sharking. On every shot you have the opponent standing in your face and lurking around the table looking for you to touch another ball. Plus in bars it will just cause more problems.

The oddest part of cue ball only fouls especially when playing One Pocket is that after the balls get moved "accidentally" the balls that were frozen and dead to your hole are never there any more.
the rule is for the nonoffending player to be able to put the balls back as they thought they were but no one ever wants to allow them to be placed back dead to the pocket.
