Fred “Scooter” Goodman is a thief. Here’s how he stole from me:

I’d like my shit back.

Me wife spared moneys and bought it for me for our anniversary.

Scooter knew and still knows this.

I just want me cue back exactly the way it was handed over.

Not from some $3 OF chick that’s texting me trying to cover his debts. Not Scooter’e baby momma from 12 years ago who hasn’t seen him in over 6 years; or his mommy for that matter.

I just want my fkn property and my moneys.

Scooter, Fred Goodman; you, sir; are simply despicable.

I don’t want to sound like I’m piling on too much. I really do mean this to be constructive. But to me the thing to ponder is giving out the anniversary present. This was the bigger part of the mistake and is on you- you had an extra reason to say no and you didn’t. Examine that and maybe it will be a more valuable lesson in the long term than the more obvious one of not lending to that guy etc….

Sounds like you were well aware of the nature of this guy well before then. Handing your cue over borders on insanity.

But then calling a $100 set doubled to 2 bills cheap is borderline degenerate gambler mentality. I fold my c notes in half and put them back in my pocket if I need to double them.

These are all the opinions of a "nit" :ROFLMAO:

He's all of 10 posts in AZ, 9 on this one alone. A scuffling gambler did somebody wrong??? Alert the media.

I’ve been on AZ since day one or thereabouts actually. Probably over 20 years. I have sold and bought things but I’m using tapatalk and I’m guessing it may have used another login.

I don’t really remember my original AZB login I thought it was the same.

Berber,

To be blunt, after twenty years of knowing scooter or knowing the pool world you sure as hell should have known better! I have to admit that I spent decades in the pool halls and bars and always enjoyed the con men and hustlers, large and small. I never loaned any of them a dime. I either gave them a bit or told them sorry. Loans piss me off because I have an expectation of being paid back.

Contrary to some, I have found a lot more honest people in pool halls and bars than I have found in churches or bible classes. Might be some indication of where I spend my time but I have owned over a dozen businesses. When someone comes and starts telling me what a good christian they are I put one hand firmly over my wallet. When they tell me they are a deacon, preacher, priest, or other man of the cloth, I put the other hand firmly over the first one!

I have met dozens of "scooters" over the years. They are fun to talk to, fun to play pool with, cash on the light. When they come wanting money I always say, "Man, I was just fixing to ask you for a twenty. Times are tight." Either that or demanding the last twenty they borrowed from me back. They rarely owe me any money, but they have borrowed from so many people with no intention of paying back they can't remember if they owe me money or not. The guys I put the bite on, the guys that I demand payment from, they are in a hurry to get away! I learned something similar worked for people always whining and bitching. Start whining and bitching about your own woes, real or imagined, and they can't get away fast enough!

You have read it enough already, but you should be bored for the simples for loaning out something with sentimental value or that can't be replaced. You have probably heard enough from your wife that strangers on the net ragging you shouldn't bother you though!

I used to loan people twenty dollars or less or extend them that amount of credit, then laugh as soon as they are out of sight! My wife would ask why I was laughing. "With any luck, the last I will see of that bum!" An even less expensive trick was to demand payment of what they already owed me. They didn't owe me anything but I knew they wouldn't remember since they owed half the world! They usually hasten off with promise of a payment within a few days. If I really chew their asses loudly in a group of people they will dash the other way when they see me after that!

Stories of other people getting hustled are funny, not when it is at your expense though. Might try telling him that the shaft or stick really belonged to "Vito", "I'll just tell him you have it!" Selling debt is fun too. When somebody owes you money they will never repay sell the debt to the baddest man around.

Thank you, Hu.

You are absolutely correct and I agree with everything you have mentioned.

Much obliged for the insight and taking the time to share it.

I think there's a good chance he didn't really want / need to practice with it; he planned on keeping it / selling it right from the start. The guy is a known degenerate thief.

More than the money, it has sentimental value. Between sentimental value and principle, personally, I would go "discuss" it with him in person. Yup, shouldn't be too hard to find in the pool room. At very minimum, you would, of course, leave with whatever kind of pool cue he had with him. That should make you feel a little better. :)

Reminds me of a guy named Scott who I purchased a table from. He was super nice on the phone and talked about a few people I know. He started out saying I didn’t have to pay anything upfront and if I didn’t like the table I didn’t have to buy it. A few weeks before delivery he started asking for some money to pay for shipping expenses. I consented and sent $500. Then a couple of weeks later he wanted more money, I said no. When he showed up with the table it wasn’t in the condition he said it was and didn’t have the new cloth for it. I’m still waiting for the stuff Scott said he’ll have for me Monday. That Monday hasn’t come yet, eights months and counting. I even listened to him telling how he’s turned his live around. OK, whatever dude. Sorry I fell for BS, but at least I wasn’t totally screwed.

if it wasnt for suckers the world would be no fun. it needs them for comedy and getting the worst of the people into money to spread around to others.
so if you get taken for your cash then you are really helping out others to survive and do well. consider yourself a patron.

Hello friends;

I have known the Ohio crew since 2005. They would come to Detroit and take on local champs every week. I was still in college at the time and didn’t have much cash to gamble with. I still frequented the pool room “Hall of Fame” at the time; house pro being Ronnie Wiseman. Many pros would come and play in the back room and I’d be on the sidelines sweating all the action. Late Jerry Howard, Cornbread, T-Rex, Pagulayan, Miami, and many more come to mind. The back room was non stop action. I’m talking 10s if not 100s of thousands. Freezer and Cardone came one time and lost over 100K.

Moving forward; I moved to FL. Befriended Crosby, Deuel, Mills, and many more.

One day I pop in to my preferred pool room and I run into Scooter. Banging balls on a Diamond. I had to re-introduce meself, but I think he knew who I was; just couldn’t remember the name.

We shoot a cheap set for 100. I win. He doubles. As one does. I agree. I lose. I extend my hand since I’m out of time at that point. I pay him on the spot. We play again the next day and I win back to back. He pays pronto and I take care of his bill.

He asks me if he can shoot with my Revo cue which me wife got for me when they first came out for our anniversary. I told him sure. He asked me if he could practice with it for a few days because he was looking to get one himself. I said yes, no problem. This was January 9, 2025.

That was the last time I have seen this thief and the liar. He has texted me saying it’s on its way and this and that dozens of times with nothing.

I have also lent him money, and got it back in pieces from some woman I do not know.

I think I have given this old friend every chance to make it right. I feel very sad that it has come to this.

I would like my property back. I would also let all fellow players know that this man’s word is worthless. Sadly.

if he is texting you like you say, you should be smart enough to find out where he lives. Be a man and go get your shit back. Surprise him by showing up, or crack a house cue over his head. deserves it.

A very good friend of mine was going on vacation for 3 weeks to NYC, asked to borrow my 3C shaft to go play at Carom Cafe!

I told him no, we haven't spoken since!
So not a good friend. If you won’t lend a good friend something then he was never a good friend.

I lend stuff to my “good friends” all the time.

Other people not so much.

A cue in Your hands may be the same as a Mop!

My cues/shafts are the 'Tools of My Trade'!

BTW, I didn't stop trying to talk to him!
I can understand why you value a cue over a friendship. It’s who you are.

I lend tools to people all the time. Most of the people I encounter are good people.

Of course there’s a small handful of people I wouldn’t lend a garden hose to. I wouldn’t consider them to be good friends though.

My brother was in Uncle Sugar's operation when I started playing pool for fun and profit. The other sticks were far inferior to my money stick so I was letting him use it too. He didn't do anything that we all haven't done countless times but two inches snapped off the tip end of my shaft, my "magic" shaft! I wasn't angry at him but I couldn't hide I was angry at the damage. He was more than willing to replace the shaft but as you know there is no replacing a shaft you have been playing over sixty hours a week with for months.

All I could do was snivel and moan. That shaft had made me over three thousand dollars in the last six months and was going to go on doing that or better for months to come,... or it might have broken the next time I handled it. Had to take the long view.
