Is this a joke?

Seriously.

Shanelle is about as qualified to give pool lessons as Charlie is qualified to give a seminar on women's rights.

It is either a joke or the worst press release I have every seen. It slaps Shanelle mightily refusing to call her a pool player and it acknowledges charlie has a tendency to jump in from time to time, a long rumored propensity.

I agree. Unlike many I do think Shanelle has some good potential as a womens player with proper instruction and training. She is not qualified though in my opinion to teach much more than a beginners basic lesson.
I'll refrain from any further comments on C W.

Watching her play Shanelle does seem very serious about the game. She needs some time to mature her game if she is to be a serious contender and it seems that isn't going to be allowed to happen. Other than some questionable dress choices which I feel pretty sure were dictated by others I haven't seen her behave with anything but class. I wish her well.

I must have missed something here. It clearly states that it is geared towards beginners and intermediates. It is a free promotion with the possibility of turning casual or non players into fans of the game and maybe more. What could possibly be wrong with this?

I understand that there is a lot of charlie bashing on here. It is well likely deserved, but I do not want to get into the politics of that.

I am just saying why would ANYONE have any problem with somone trying to promote the game to newer players? Other more qualified teachers have been mentioned, but are they teaching for free? To someone who is just starting out, I think this would be a great thing, and who knows? Maybe one of these new players stick with it, and will call up some of these other instructors in the future when they are serious enough to pay for some lessons.

If you can run 3 balls consistantly, and know how to stand at the table properly, you have something to offer a true beginner. Walk into any poolroom and you will see FAR more misinformation and advice that is trying to pass for instruction. This has to be better for the game and new players than that!

I think this is sad. I have seen people try to do something to promote the game, and have people jump all over them. Then a minute later everyone says " Why won't someone do something for the good of the sport?" , and wonder why pool is in such the sad state that it is in.

Where is the downside to this? What am I missing?

Any of the more qualified people willing to schedule a weekly FREE lesson?

Let me know, so I can criticize you mercilessly for having good intentions, and say I know someone who is far more qualified ( but of course won't do it for free).

I remember many years ago, I worked at a pool room in Chicago. There was an older lady who used to put on a group pool seminar. She had prob NEVER run a rack in her life, but she loved the game so much. Her enthusiasm was absolutely contagious. Me and her " students" were glad to have here there. These people had so much fun. They were introduced to a great game in a comfortable and fun atmosphere. She did provide a very good and sound introduction. She did not pass herself off as a highly skilled player either.

I used to teach some lessons out of the room, (beginner and intermediate). Many of these players would seek out more help after their initial introduction.

Who has a problem with trying to get new players to fall in love with this game and get them out into the pool halls? There have been so many closing in my area, I am for ANYTHING that would mean more revenue to a local pool hall. Hopefully, it will be enough to keep the ones I go to open so I can still enjoy the game that I love.

CW does have a bad rap (Personally I do not know how much is true or not), but that sucker must be able to coach because he is not only a very strong player but Yu Ram's game has jumped mightily.

Another classic joke from Charlie Williams.

No problem with doing good to help others. As I said Shanelle could teach a beginners class just fine IMHO. Michell Monk and Wayne Catledge are probably excellent teachers. I know Michell is a very good player and loves and breathes pool. I'm not familiar with Mr. Catledge except from seeing his name on tournament charts. I'm certain CW could pass along excellent instruction to any man who wished instruction. As for new female players looking for instruction..... again I'll just say I'll refrain from further comment about CW.

Shanelle could teach someone the art of firing balls into the rail

Id take the class just to lay my rap on her for a few hours.
and if it dont take (like thats even possible ;) ) then at least I got a few hours of
pool with a hot chick.

I just found it funny that Marissa typed exactly what i was thinking before i even could.

Shoot if shes qaulifed to teach then that means just about everyone on this forum is qaulified too.

What a joke

This should be moved to the joke thread in NPR. At least he isn't charging it is said to be free. From what I have seen of Loraine playing she would be lucky to win the D event at the local drunks pub.

In Norway, we have something called "Law of Jante", invented by an author who came from a small town in Denmark - Jante. This was an attack on those who likes to put people with succes down where they belong, namely in the gutter together with themselves.

Many talented people would never reach far because there is an untold rule saying that you should not think you are better than others.

Here it is, the Law of Jante:

1. You shall not believe that you are somebody.
2. You shall not believe that you are as worthy as us.
3. You shall not believe that you are any wiser than us.
4. You shall not imagine that you are any better than us.
5. You shall not believe that you know anything more than us.
6. You shall not believe that you are more than us.
7. You shall not believe that you are good at anything.
8. You shall not laugh at us.
9. You shall not believe that anyone cares about you!
10. You shall not believe that you can teach us anything!

Seems like this law applies to pool also.
