I must have missed something here. It clearly states that it is geared towards beginners and intermediates. It is a free promotion with the possibility of turning casual or non players into fans of the game and maybe more. What could possibly be wrong with this?
I understand that there is a lot of charlie bashing on here. It is well likely deserved, but I do not want to get into the politics of that.
I am just saying why would ANYONE have any problem with somone trying to promote the game to newer players? Other more qualified teachers have been mentioned, but are they teaching for free? To someone who is just starting out, I think this would be a great thing, and who knows? Maybe one of these new players stick with it, and will call up some of these other instructors in the future when they are serious enough to pay for some lessons.
If you can run 3 balls consistantly, and know how to stand at the table properly, you have something to offer a true beginner. Walk into any poolroom and you will see FAR more misinformation and advice that is trying to pass for instruction. This has to be better for the game and new players than that!
I think this is sad. I have seen people try to do something to promote the game, and have people jump all over them. Then a minute later everyone says " Why won't someone do something for the good of the sport?" , and wonder why pool is in such the sad state that it is in.
Where is the downside to this? What am I missing?
Any of the more qualified people willing to schedule a weekly FREE lesson?
Let me know, so I can criticize you mercilessly for having good intentions, and say I know someone who is far more qualified ( but of course won't do it for free).
I remember many years ago, I worked at a pool room in Chicago. There was an older lady who used to put on a group pool seminar. She had prob NEVER run a rack in her life, but she loved the game so much. Her enthusiasm was absolutely contagious. Me and her " students" were glad to have here there. These people had so much fun. They were introduced to a great game in a comfortable and fun atmosphere. She did provide a very good and sound introduction. She did not pass herself off as a highly skilled player either.
I used to teach some lessons out of the room, (beginner and intermediate). Many of these players would seek out more help after their initial introduction.
Who has a problem with trying to get new players to fall in love with this game and get them out into the pool halls? There have been so many closing in my area, I am for ANYTHING that would mean more revenue to a local pool hall. Hopefully, it will be enough to keep the ones I go to open so I can still enjoy the game that I love.
