I had a morri medium tip installed on my freys sp about three weeks ago and the tip started mushrooming (no surprise), but i also noticed that the ferrule started mushrooming with the tip, Someone told me that he must've used bad ferrule material, has anyone else had this problem, if so how did you fix it? Thanks

Look closely at it, on the Frey I ordered a few months ago, there was a ring of squeezed out glue on ferrule. Hate to say it, But I think Bobs eyes are going..... :D
Actually it just wasnt trimmed all the way. The ferrules on mine appear to be melamine.

actually when i first got it the orginal tip wasnt even trimmed down to the ferrule, it had a slight overhang, then when i had Chris Hightower put my morri on it looked perfect, played perfect, after a couple of weeks the ferrule started flaring out with the tip

your best bet is probably to contact frey himself im sure he would help you out as it seems most every custom cue maker prides themself on the product they put out. ive had my frey about the same amount of time as you have had yours and i have no complaints about the cue so it may just be an isolated incident where you have just unluckily recieved a cue with a bad ferule.

Frey Ferrule

I must say that in all my years,Bob & me have never had such a problem with a ferrule mushrooming. They are both threaded on and thru. But that doesn't help you with your problem. Please pack up the shaft and ship it back to me, so Bob & me can review problem. In turn I would like to personally ship you a new shaft so your not out of the game. Please contact me at 301-452-3600,so we can get you back up as soon as possible. JP

Hi,

Can't address the ferrule problem but I am having the same issue with a morri tip I just had installed. It's flairing terribly and not consistantly. one side bulges etc. I am using my tip tool to reshape about every 2 hrs of play. going to have to get it changed I am afraid.

I've got a Frey SP with about 150 +/- hours of play with no such problems with the ferrule.

The ferrule is not capped?
Is the ferrule linen melamine or the old glass melamine?
Melamines are designed as threaded and capped ferrule.
They only crack or mushroom if you take the cap out.

The ferrule seems to be some really soft type of plastic.
It is not quite capped as the wood goes all the way through but the tenon coming out the end is really small.
With the quality of Melamine going way down, I suspect this is an experiment with a replacement material.

All cue sellers should take note on how Mr. Nusbaum stands behind his product. Well done sir.
Request that the ferrule be replaced with the new Ivorine 4...top quality and bulletproof.

The LBM ferrule is not even close to the old Melamine ferrule.
The new ones are more porous. Looks like the old board chalk and a lot softer.
In fact it doesn't have the ping of the old glass melamine ferrule.

That is...

What do you spose the "standard" ferrule material was for Scruggs SP? Not really sure what my TS ferrule is but am guessing melamine? You think Bob Fry uses the same material as the old TS Sneakies?

Since I brought it up I'll ask Bob and report back.

according to cuesnthings the ferules are aegis go to the site and click on the first sneaky and it lists the specs of the cues

Agreed. This is what good customer service is all about. Everybody who is selling anything should take note of this.

Down in Vegas, I stopped by Joe Blackburns booth and asked him to try and determine what my ferrules were, he thought they were melamine too.
I dont know anything about the ivor x, but I know for a fact they arent any of the aegis's.

Have you even spoken to the man

I would suggest you try and get resolution from the man before posting this issue on public forum.

What was I thinking posting this pool related issue on public pool forum.

I would like to appolgize to JP and Mr. Freys, my ferrule was not mushrooming, it was my own fault, the cue plays awesome and I would recommend them to anyone who wants a good hitting sneaky pete.

Was it glue? On my ferrules when I received the cue, the tips and glue were left at about 13.25 and the shafts were 13. Not a problem for me, and prefer it because I always trim and manicure a tip to my liking and its nice to have some "meat" left on the tip to work with.
