Friday Open Thread: 32 Men Left Standing

I cna't get my work done. I can't keep my eyes off the live table brackets and this forum. Niels is now 5-zip. Poor Hennessee.

if you all remember, it was Waleed Majed who eliminated Corteza and Appleton, at last-64 and last-32 respectively, in this year's world 9-ball.

That means he's a fine player for sure, but under the radar for many of us. He's certainly put on a show so far.

.... and, of course, the fact that he plays the WPA events toughens his competitive pedigree.

Earl makes nice carom off the three to make the nine.

Majid 7 Strickland 3

I watched this guy play last night smooth as butter....great jump shot maker
And excellent position play very impressed !

It's kind of refreshing to some new blood on the international pool scene, especially from Qatar. I like that.

Man, Niels Feijen is putting on a clinic with poor Johnathan Pinegar. 6-zip. :frown:

Great runout by Majid after a tough bank of the one ball. Commentators giving him his due now. The guy is shooting .945 so far. To my recollection the only 900 accu-stats matches on the TV table were Orcullo over Reyes, Dechaine over Ouschan, and now this one.

Majid 8 Strickland 3

Meanwhile, the Greek is kicking his opponent's but, leaving him only a goose egg for a score, 8-zip.

According to Accu-Stats, they finally put up a schedule for this morning:

10:30am -Waleen Majid vs. Earl Strickland

12:30pm - Darren Appleton vs. To Be determined

2:30pm - Mike Dechaine vs. Dennis Orcollo

Earl one strokes an easy kick on the one ball, sells out but Majid makes a position error to give Earl a chance, and both players miss a ball. Earl runs out.

Majid 8 Strickland 4

Earl might want to reconsider his decision to mail it in.

John Schmidt mentioned on FB the following about Waleed: Waleed beat me 11-3 he's awesome player and can win tourney. He's from Qatar . They have so much money hopefully that country puts on some pool tourneys. Waleed could lead the way by winning open.

That's the dumbest comment I have ever heard. Just because a country has a lot of money doesn't give it more or less of a chance it will get into pool. Guess what -- there are a lot of people in the USA with a lot of money and they aren't fighting each other off to sponsor a pool event.

The difference is the American pool culture thinks pool pros are bums with no jobs. There is no respect for talent in America when it comes to professional pool. Qatar, on the other hand, respect pool as a spirt. Therein likes the difference.

Walid Majid can play.

Has he missed a shot yet? He's gotten out of line a few times, and scratched on the break twice I think, but I don't remember him failing to pocket a ball.

Greek shot his man Bruner down, 11 to 2. Game over.

Hennessee is struggling big time with Niels, 7 to 1.

Waheed only needs 2 for the almighty win.
