Everything costs more than $10 these days why do people waste their time playing $10 sets? There should be an unwritten rule that sets are no less than $25 and only if the races are short.:sorry:

May be thats all they can afford or willing to loose, times are hard and pool has changed. They all want locked games or they won't bet a dime. But at the end of the day winning small amount of money is better than going home empty pocket.

I'm not sure what you mean by "short" but if I am the better player I prefer longer races. It's been my experience that a longer race is more advantageous to the better player. Typically the longer race will outrun the luck factor. To each their own, no one is forcing you either way.

She means - Short races to get a bunch in - it's hard to outrun time playing $10 sets.

Next time play $2 a game instead

The same guy will lose the same amount - just won't take as long
(especially if you lose a set by a game)

Maybe you should be happy it`s only $10 a game, sound like your not on a winning streak lately...

Because they aren't trying to earn a living gambling or screw over their friends. It's the equivalent of playing for a couple beers, so nobody is going to go home mad and you can come back and do it again.

To bet "big" ($100+ sets in most places, but $1000+ sets in some places), your options are:
a) someone with a gambling problem,
b) someone who thinks they have the nuts,
c) someone with a backer who thinks they have the nuts, or
d) someone with money to burn so your big bet seems small to them.

There is probably some middle ground if you have someone that is convinced they have a fair matchup and likes a little more pressure, but that's hard to do with a stranger.

+1. Sometimes you can get a good game for FREE because people like to play pool. IMO, there's a distinct line between pool players that gamble and gamblers that bet on pool...

Everyone has the ability to change things in their lives.
You can make an effort to change how you like things done or you can complain about it.

Just refuse to play anyone for under 25 bucks if you feel that you are above a 10 dollar set.

Maybe players who don't mind gambling feel that 10 is within their comfort range. Nothing wrong with that.

10 bucks is my comfort range. I feel that I am gambling, could win or lose a little and am getting value for my money.

Just because you need to make a living by gambling at pool, doesn't mean that everyone else should feel that way.

So, in other words, people that actually work for a living and maybe have other priorities in life, should work just to support your life style. Is that correct?
Someone should come up short on a mortgage or car payment because you need to live.

Dreams don't cost anything. Dream on Rhea.

There should be an unwritten rule that some people shouldn't be able to complain how other people want to play their own pool; especially when those doing the complaining are just using the forums to bait suckers.

You obviously believe in wealth redistribution. So does our President. Maybe he'll play you a few sets?

Play Straight pool for 25 cents a point........150 point game......play a race to 3 games.....the time will pass quickly, and if you're as good as think you are, you can clean up......raise it to 50 cents a point.......and when you play with the big boys, they play for $5 a point........you might win by 3 points but you could win by 100 points.......if ya got the game, then ya gonna get the money too.

Who cares

If you want to make money, get a job.

If you want to be broke, keep doing what you're doing.

Your trying to make money matching up. That's a start but you need to learn to hustle. That takes deep pockets, skill and heart. Read Johnnyt's stories. He was the master of disguise and the hustle. I've known a few better then average road players. Not naming names but they all had a system. Your playing in tournaments correct? Are you cashing? If your not coming in close to last your not getting any side action afterword's. Even then you need to lose before you can win. The word needs to get around your a looser or a easy mark. Never steam roll a sucker. Rhetorical question, are you packing. Playing with a sneaky pete pool cue? A break stick with duck tape on it? A case also wrapped with duck tape? Can you hide your stroke? All tricks of the trade. If I'm in a strange place I keep my back to the wall and drink my beer, just a prop, out of the bottle. If I'm drinking water I cover it with a napkin and place a little piece of paper on it so I know it it's been tampered with. I've known to many players who were slipped a mickey. In the end your not going to get rich on the road IMHO. It may be the adventure of your life or it could be very a disappointing lesson. I wish you the very best.

No I am not out hustling, I know how to do it and have done it in the past on my own but since I am with Gene that isn't the way we make money, I am just honestly matching up with people near my skill level around B to B+ speed occasionally A-speed players. Gene will not play anyone less than AA speed and he normally spots them. He only plays even with other Master players.

Never meant to offend.

no offense taken, its good advice if we just wanted to rob people. But I am actually trying to excellerate my game and raise it to the next level every time I match up.
