FS/FT Any interest?

I'm pretty new in the custom cue market, and I've been following the discussions here to educate myself. I'm looking for a "playable" custom rather than one that has big collectible value--I know you can have it both ways, but probably not for under 500$. I bid on a DP cue on ebay in the past (didn't win), but I currently have no interests due to complaints about his customer service and finish problems. There's too may other cue makers in my price range who seem to go overboard to stand behind their product.

That said, the cue looks pretty good from your pics. Looks like a nice addition to your collection..

Nola, honestly, for the price that you are able to pick up a Dale Perry cue, I think you would be very satisfied. I know there have been some issues of customer service complaints, but really have no idea as to how wide spread they are. Just don't buy into the hype that the cue has a TRUE market value of $1799, when the true value is $300. I honestly feel that you will get a lot of cue for your $300, but you will NOT get a 1 of 1, $1800 cue. NOBODY discounts merchandise 85%.

Nola

yeah, Bama is correct. For $300 you could get a good hitting DP on Ebay. But like everything else, the MSRP is not even close. So do not think you will buy a DP cue on Ebay for $300 and sell it for $1800. Not unless you find a sucker, and if you do send him my way - I've got some land in Florida for sale.

But just to let you know, I got this cue in a trade built specifically to my design, and it will not be built for Ebay, or anyone else(only 3 shamrock ring design cues to be in existence). So I guess I should keep it and see what happens to DP and his rep in the future. So I now know I got a great hitting unique cue through a trade, that can be a jaw dropper, and has no resale value, so I should just shoot with it and keep it for my own collection. In any case, I will be the coolest shooter around town on March 17th each year. better than a "kiss me I'm Irish button", but maybe worth less:p

Thanks,

Michael

Official Dale Perry cues listing from Ebay of a completed transaction.

Dealer's price (MSRP): $1799

Actual sales price by Dale Perry: $260

Sale price as a percentage of MSRP: 15%

Discount to the customer: 85%

Apparently, Dale does not work like the jewelry industry.

come on, we all know that that price is a very inflated one for the sake of trying and entice a better bid/selling price. i've been trusted by many makers to put values to their cues and this cue is about an $1,000 retail/ $550/selling piece that sold for under what it should have due the the misconception of Dale's work derived from his retail market strategy. the buyer got a great deal.

As I said TU, it's a sweet looking cue. Just don't tote it around down in the Irish Channel on St. Patricks day--you might lick up a few dings!

Nola - u in NOLA?

I relocated due to Katrina, but should be headed back to NOLA by end of year. Looking to get back in the pool scene there. You play league? See you down there in a few months.

Michael

I relocated to Spokane WA after Katrina. Played league many years in NO, mostly out of a now defunct joint called the Cajun Inn in mid-city. Played in a regional with the Evangeline Bar in Biloxi about a month before the storm--seems like a long time ago. I'm playing APA up here, and it's definitely helped ease the transition. Hope Lubbock's treating you well.

Well, then I peobably played you.

Played in the uptown league and played many a time at Cajun Inn. Nice bunch of guys. I remember most of the guys, but names have been lost since the storm. I played out of Bruno's and Parkview for most of my time in APA Uptown league. The I went BCA Metairie and never got back into APA, until here in Lubbock.

Michael

I'm sure we crossed paths, Michael. Played many a night at Parkview and Brunos, in league, as well as uptown joints like Charity's and Muddy Waters during my TU days. Who knows, maybe we'll be able to play a few racks over some cold abitas one day in the crescent city.
best,
Jay

I'm stunned, but I will steal your usual line and say that love this cue. I agree with you that it might be tough to move a DP on this forum, but I still like it.

Lol...

Yup, it's a nice cue. I remember actually talking to Tulane in-depth about DP's bad rap and the future of this cue specifically while he was having Dale make it. We discussed the fact that if he ever wanted to sell it to try something else, it would be a little tough on here...especially on his pocket, unless someone who really liked the design saw it.

But he decided he really liked the design and was curious about playability, so I supported him. Lol :)

I just wanted to confirm that he likes how it plays -- and at this point, that's what's important, I think. Hopefully, someone will take it off his hands and let him try something else...

After all, I know how it is... ;)

EDIT: You're right! That cue would be pretty sweet on St. Patrick's Day! Lol......nice thought.

Truthfully, I think it is a great design in a cue. I have a friend who would really like that cue. Very similar in scheme to the McDermott Cue of the Year.

I want to apologize to Michael. Seems like every thread that talks about DP cues gets off the subject. I should not have made any comment about Dale's cues on his sale thread.

FWIW, I still think Dale makes a nice cue for what they sell for. If he had kept his true custom line (the signed cues) and sold his DP line (his original "production" line) on Ebay, etc, I think this cue would still have been $1200 plus.

Again, my apology, Michael.

Hi Michael,

You sure have a bad case of tradeitis. I measured the Frey shaft at 12.8, hope you find a nice cue.

gr. Dave

Thanks, Dave.

Yeah, you know it. Just thought I would test the waters. Love the Frey and the DP, just wanted to see what might be out there, and if anyone was interested in helping me make a move up. But, as I expected, the DP on the cue certainly drops the value, even though it is a nice cue. Guess I will just have to hurt myself by keeping this amazing looking cue. hell, it plays great too. Sometimes you just have to suffer:p :p

Dale Oerry

I Think The Cue Is Sharp. I Have A Dale Perry And A Dpr Shaft For It Also And It Plays Great. I Love The Hit Of The Dpr. As Far As Customer Service. I Sent Him The Cue After I Got It To Have The Dpr Shaft Made For It . Called And Talked To Him, Got It Done To My Specs And Shipped Out No Problems. I Don't Think There Is Any Cue On The Market That Has As Much Into It As A Dp ( For The Money).

DP Cues

Well I have 4 DP Cues which Dale made 3 for me. I love them all and don't care who don't like them. I purchased them for ME and not everyone else.

And playability, they play great. Anyway, it's not the cue but the cueist that determing the playability. I bet Archer or Strickland could run many racks on end with a DP Cue.

Here is my collection....
