If this cue could speak, the tales it could tell (besides saying "OUCH").

Ending this Sunday 2/22, I'm auctioning off a 1960s Zebrawood Ginacue once owned and operated by world renowned pool guy Jay Helfert.

My guarantee is simple, 100% satisfaction or return for complete refund. If the buyer feels that their dissatisfaction is due to a misdescribed auction, I refund all the postage as well.

This auction won't disappear suddenly. I don't end auctions early. I don't have items for sale locally. This auction will run to the end. Interested buyers will all have an equal chance to bid and win the auction.

Buy this cue before Jay's book hits the NY Times Best Seller list.

Please let me know if I can be of assistance.

Thanks

Is that really the reason why is is warped to shit? lol under a spare? Or is that a joke?

That's the first cue that I've seen that may be worthy of mounting over a fireplace!

It reminds me a of a Brunswick that I used to keep in the trunk of my car.

This one should be worth thousands when that book hits the shelf. We are all ready to buy it!

How's the shaft ? It looks pretty good in the pic.

The shaft has some vise marks near the joint (no way Ernie did that) but it's otherwise good for it's age. It has an ivory ferrule. Unfortunately, it rolls pretty straight so it doesn't negate the warp in the butt.

Thanks

Kevin

Is it a Gina shaft? Doesn't match up with the cue.

Its a Gina shaft but it might not be original to the cue. Its from the same era, but, as you noticed, the ring work is slightly different. Jay may have bought this shaft later or it might have been lying around at Ernie's. Maybe Jay could shed some light while telling us about everyone he beat using this cue. Ernie sold these sticks for $65 in the 60s.

Thanks

Kevin

You don't think it's worth thousands now? Maybe I should wait.

Jay's crooked old butt...

I've heard many references to Jay's "crooked old butt" but I'm not sure they were ever in reference to a cue! j/k

Actually, since I'm a very frequent visitor to Ernie's shop I can certainly vouch for the validity of the cue. I have heard from both Ernie & Jay regarding the cue's storied history.

If cues could talk I imagine that one could write a bestseller!

Good luck with the auction Kev!

Joe

It would be very easy to make a new handle/forearm for it, and reuse the vintage buttsleve. Did Ernie realy say he wont do it? It is not a difficult repair at all. any cue maker can do it. But it would be worth way more if Ernie did it. I assume the original shaft is lonnnngggg gone?

I don't think Ernie wants to do the repair. This is the shaft I have for it, a 60s Gina with close rings.

Thanks

That is a shame.
60's ginas are realy special. It would be very easy for him to do, and ten times more meaningfull than having someone else do it.
But its still worth having done in my opinion.
Hell there aren't any points or inlays to try to duplicate, the only thing to worry about is matching the ring work on the joint collar for the new shaft.

Kevin I have taken a close look at the cue, and I can understand why Ernie doesn't want to fix it, the entire cue would have to be rebuilt and I doubt he has time with all his other projects. I have placed a bid on the cue and if I win, I will restore it and give it back to Jay free of charge. I have corrected problems worst than that with outstanding results, the biggest thing is the new peice of wood to replace the forearm, the rest is easy. I also just happen to have a peice of Zebrawood from the 60's that will work just fine.

Take Care

The old Zebrawood puts you a leg up on the project. You can't just give it back to Jay, if you do, he'll win the Pulitzer and then he'll have the prize and the cue. Wait until Jay's book is out and then you can go on tour with the stick (provided you bid high enough to win).

Thanks

Kevin this is what I would use for the project. This is a 1960's Rich cue that I acquired that did not have a shaft that I have had laying around for a number of years. It is also a solid piece Zebra Wood like the Gina, this type of construction and use of materials was very common during that time. The diameter at the butt 1.370 and at the joint .875 this is also very large by todays standards, but it also makes it easy to work with. The cue below in the photo's is still straight, with no more than 2 thousands run out spinning between centers. In my opinion if it has stayed straight for 30 plus years it would certainly be stable enough for this project.

Not a bad match for the original below

Looks like a match. Now all you need is for your bid to hold up. So far its ar $52 with you as the high bidder. Good luck!
