FS: I'm Selling Jay Helfert's Crooked Old Butt on EBay

My Cue

So, Jay is someone you should not loan a cue to ???

I own one of the cues I played with back in the late `60`s. A couple of years ago I renamed my cue "The Pretzel".

No particular reason. But it wasn`t based on color!

Will Prout;) :p :p :p

As a world known pretzel collector, this Gina just may be the stick for you. What cues did you have in the 60s?

Kevin

That cue would be real nice re-built on a nice cored zebrawood chassis....or left alone just as a conversation piece. Lot of pool history there...great stuff.

Thanks. I only saw it as a conversation piece (and a way to tease Jay a little) and was a little surprised at all the conversation about what it would take to make a cue out of it.

Thanks again

Kevin

I have his first "Moe style"wig if anyone is interested.

PS- Will trade even up for a "Larry".

Thanks for the butt bump.

Kevin

Certainly not to make waves, but I have a hard time with why in the world
Ernie would have no interest in bringing this cue back from the dead. After all, it was his early work that put him on the map and is an imporant part of his legacy.

Sometimes I think cuemakers get too wrapped up in baller cues that might never hit a ball vs. dipping back into what got them there. Maybe I am alone in my thinking......what say you guys?

It's not so much lack of interest. It's more lack of belief that there are enough salvageable parts on this particular cue to warrant a "rebuild".

If he replaces every part of this cue except the ring with his and Jay's name on it, is it a rebuild or is it a brand new cue?

Also, Ernie is a cue builder, when he does a fix on an old cue, it's to make a pool cue out of. Ernie is no dummy, he knows that plenty of the old stuff he restores will never hit a ball, but he's a perfectionist and a cue maker and his restorations have to have the ability of having Gina playability, after all, it is a pool cue.. I think he doesn't see this cue as being viable in that way.

Sorry if you don't see it that way, but I think you should be a little careful about attaching motivations and thoughts to a guy you clearly don't know. There are plenty of people reading these forums that have had Ernie give precedence over existing projects in order to fix or restore an old Gina, with special time allocated for to playing cues.

Last time I was in there he had stopped work on my project in order to do a repair on a Gina shaft. He apologized to me, explaining that he couldn't make a guy be out his playing cue for 3 months or more. Plenty of cue makers do just that.

Thanks

Kevin

Probaby right there Kevin and I certainly meant no disrespect to Ernie. I think I suffer from the No Soldier Left Behind mentality. To me its a little slice of history but nevertheless I guess it would be a fine collectible for someone

Wow- Ive never ever seen anything like that. That cat's butt gotta be better looking than his face!

2 Daze Left

Only a couple of daze left and the bidding is at $255. Is that it? All bids in ? All through ?

Thanks

Kevin

over/under

I have the line much higher....I'd like the over with the line around $750. I'd didn't say *I'd* pay it, but that's my line.

It is a piece of pool history and a chance to say you **OWN** Jay Helfert's Crooked Butt.

That claim alone has gotta be worth somethin'....maybe Fatboy should buy it, I think I heard him claim he *owned* Jay's butt once before, but he mighta just been talkin' smack!

I have a little tougher time with Joe's line, but on yours I'll take the over. I plan on setting a world auction record for warped Zebrawood 1960s Ginas with famous pool guy and author provenance. Only time will tell.

Thanks, and I'll take the over

Kevin

Beleive me, I hope you get the over also!!!

It would be good for crooked sticks everywhere.

They can all stop being embarrased and come out of the closet.

Best of luck with the auction!
