Weighs 19.3 oz. with either straight shaft (13mm, 3.8 oz. each and exceptionally nice wood). Wrap is white with double brown specs. I know about the waiting list, etc--I am curious on the mark-up for the cue.

One almost identical just sold in Reno for $1500.00, which is a more realistic price for this cue, IMHO. If he can find an uninformed buyer, more power to him. But what burns me about this is the "add 3.8% for PayPal". Sellers pay fees - period. That's how it works. I own a small chain of retail stores, and guarantee you that no one from Bob's Hardware Store to Neiman Marcus ever even considered charging for using a credit card (that's verified/valid/zero risk of chargeback, etc.) As the seller/merchant, we absorb these fees. At $2400.00, it's not like he didn't build in sufficient margin. He wants to charge more for guaranteed secure funds. Jeez! Perhaps he'd rather wait for pony express to deliver a few gold medallions...

Do we think the over-inflated prices of SW is because all of the Japanese and other overseas people snatching them up or is the demand that great in the US as well?

I don't think $2400 is such a bad asking price. I've seen lots of ugly, used South West cues go for close to that. Most weren't even half as nice as this one.

Me too. I'd negotiate if I like the cue. Martin is cool from what I know and he will entertain any serious offer any buyer may have.

Its like anything else.The cue is okay but if it was an unknown CM he would be lucky to get $450 for it.There are just too many good cuemakers out there today to give that kind of money for that cue.

I dont agree with the price, but he will likely get it as there is nothing like a Southwest--that is why they are in the top 5 most sought after cue. But I agree that if you do not have the dollars there are a million choices out there.
The southwest ping, is something you need to experience before you die.

Shorty, I think the overseas folks contribute to the trend of upward drift in pricing on new (and to some extent, used) South West cues but there are two other factors that affect the secondary market. First, South West has raised their pricing recently (thanks Hoe!). Second, and maybe more importantly, South West isn't producing as many cues as in previous years. I'll leave it to others speculate as to why that is.

I have owned many, many high-dollar and coveted cues (2 Gus's made for me by Gus). When I returned to pool 4 years ago I couldn't understand all the hoopla about South West. I figured it was some kind of folly. Jerry Franklin had made me a cue in the spring of 1983 and I dumped it off in the pool room 3 or 4 days after it arrived! At the time I thought it played too stiff for me as my frame of reference was 13" "pro" taper. When I bought a South West in the weight range I like earlier this year, I understood what the hoopla was about after I hit 2 balls. The stiff solid hit and the predictability appeals to me now, and the workmanship and materials are top notch. Like anything else, they are not going to appeal to everyone.

When exposed to a number of able buyers, if the cue I have for sale is overpriced, it simply will not sell. It's okay if that happens.

Shorty, thanks for the Paypal info. I was too lazy to look for the actual fee and guesstimated what it was.
