Hello! I'm new here but have been following the forums for a while. I'm putting the feelers out because I think I'm finally ready to part ways with my Thomas Wayne cue. I'm just not playing enough to justify hanging on to it.

I purchased it brand-new in 1996 from Chesapeake Cue Company (remember them...they had the best advertisements). At the time this was one of Thomas Wayne's simplest cues. It's an 8-pointer with alternating long points of ebony with short points of snakewood with holly veneers into a birds-eye maple forearm. As is his custom, one of the ebony points has the "Thomas Wayne" signature in gold. It's a black-with-white-speck linen wrap. The butt has four snakewood windows set in ebony with holly frames. It has the typical bumper with "Thomas Wayne Cues" milled out of it.

The butt is a 9/10 with maybe twenty hours of play over the past thirteen years. One shaft is unplayed but has a slight wobble in it. The other shaft has been played but is also a 9/10. It has lived in a Dan Whitten brown leather 2-shaft/1-butt case it's entire life. The case can be part of the sale if you wish.

I paid $1,450 for it in 1996. I have almost no idea what his cues are going for these days except that it seems he's focusing on more expensive, custom work. I'd like to get $1,250 for it.

No interest?

I've been out of the cue world for so long...is Thomas Wayne still a highly regarded maker? I haven't gotten much interest from this listing and I didn't know if it's the cue, the price, the economy, etc. Can someone chime in and help me? Thanks!
 
Thanks! I also had a nice gentleman PM me letting me know that the fact that I'm new to the board might be making people nervous. I can certainly understand that reasoning. You can check my ebay feedback under "cellofig" although I haven't sold or bought anything on ebay for a while...might not be much help. I've been active on a few audio forums but if you're not members there that won't be much help either!

So, if you're interested in the cue but are worried about doing business with me, PM me and we can talk. I guess that's the best I can do for now.

nice cue.. it's the fact that the economy is definitely taking its toll on any non-necessity... cues included.

Yeah, I figured that might be part of it. I'm in the Indianapolis, IN area. I remember right around when I bought this cue Thomas Wayne had completed the "Celtic Prince" cue and it set some kind of record for most money paid for a new cue. I have no idea what he's doing these days but he is certainly a talented guy.
 
Price drop!!

Well, I've had a chance to do some more research and talk to a friend that is a cue dealer. Given the economy and the fact that one shaft has a little wobble I want to make sure I'm offering a really good deal here. I'm dropping the price all the way down to $1,250 for an immaculate cue from a very famous maker.

Please PM me with interest. It was suggested that I utilize "Fast and Loose" as a middle-man since I don't have history on this board. I'm completely agreeable to that but will have to work out the details and make sure "Fast and Loose" is willing to participate.

The Midwest Cue Show is this weekend in Southwest Ohio, not far from you. You should consider making the trip with the cue and check out the interest in your cue.

Will, that's really good advice and I appreciate it. However, work is going to keep me from being able to attend. I'm fortunate enough that I don't need to sell the cue to pay bills (lots of people hurting in this economy) so if it doesn't generate enough interest for a sale now I'm fine with waiting. I can go to the Derby in Lousiville in January and show it around if I need to at that point. Thanks!
 
Personally, I don't think the price is out of line for one of Thomas' cues of this type. Like others say, probably the economy. Also, since Thomas doesn't make many (any anymore?) cues, it is a little hard to set the market on a used earlier one.

bump for a beautiful thomas wayne cue and a premium offer! even if it's hard to set the market, the money is definitely well invested imho!
