How do you protect the inlaid "diamonds" when sanding off the finish?
When spraying on the finish do you spray over the "diamonds"?
Thanks
The sights are about an 1/8" thick, and the satin finish is clear

John, the excess cloth is cut off with scissors with the grain of cloth, which means the cloth is not going to pull loose at a later date because of being cut off with a razor, and besides that...it's under the rails, so what's the effect in the look of the table? If you don't put your staples so far back you can cut straight behind them without leaving that scalloped look.
John, I cut back the rail caps to make them all the same width first, then added back on what I cut off plus just a little bit more, so...the sights are in the same place as they were by the manufacture. And the wood is not going to expand and contract, it was dried Walnut in the first place. The wood you added is going to contract and expand differently then the wood already on the cap in time. Of course the sights are not in the right place now either.
For what purpose??For all that work I would have suggested you make adjustable pockets.
All natural wood finish rails are going to get scratched at one time or another, but that's just the way it is! Show me a table with natural wood rails that is NOT scratchedThe soft spray finish is going to scratch easily.
I made an exception in this case, so shoot me:grin:You did a nice job but you always say that when the fix is more than what the table is worth you don't do it.
The slate is fixed, and rolls perfect, so what's the problem with that? The table has cracked slate. It would have been easier and better to make completely new ones.
Using bright blue cloth and dark stained rails and pockets...you're going to see the cloth in the side pockets somewhat anyway, reguardless...so once again, what's the problem? And the cloth on the sides of the pockets stands out alot. It could have been masked to hide the bright blue contrast against the dark pocket and rail
Lol. I can't stop. Isn't that what you say when you have your minions attack me. Man I have so much to say now I have to go to my word doc and paste later. Felt bad your thread count was so low
I don't really spend time in the main forum in case you haven't noticed. You know I respect you and most of the guys in here. I DO NOT appreciate being attacked though and when anyone reviews my threads they will see who does and doesn't kick me
John, stop playing your dumb games, act 50 instead of 5 and life will treat you a whole lot better. It's just like your game of keeping track of the number of views in a thread...YOU are the only one that seems to think that who ever has the highest number of views....wins something...no one cares about that....except YOU! If you want to compete at something, then at least make it about working on pool tables, and I don't mean posting that dumb-ass shit you've posted since day one when you joined AZ, and along the way. Show some of your real work...you know what I mean....show that you know how to be the mechanic that you like to imply that you are or something, hell...talk about the Diamonds you bought...how are they doing John? How's life treating you...how's your wife doing, are you having a bad day?...Have you worked on any tables lately?....I mean, come on John...this shit is getting old coming from you!!!
