I'm not an electrical engineer and never claimed to be. I am a Mechanical Engineer and have a very wide knowledge about...mechanical things...like spanner wrenches.

Since you have been on this forum, which is a very short time, you have been nothing less than Rude, Confrontational, and Obnoxious, to some very respected people and it's about time you get called on it. Don't be an azzhat and you won't be called one...plain and simple. FWIW - in the spirit of my hero KJ, I often give general, sometimes even vague information in replies to post.
With a hint or two about how to find/learn more details.

I feel this is essentially a 'casual conversation' environment - not a seminar.

Also - someday, some ambitious beginner might well be searching posts looking
for a framework to gain more useful information.

This really tempts me to go for strikes 2 and 3.

Someone 'highly respected' like pdcues just admitted that he prefers to only give vague information. Do you think that is worthy of respect? I don't.

When I started making cues, I had no direction. I had never met a cuemaker. I never saw a manual on how to build cues. I didn't know videos were available. I certainly didn't buy a lathe made for cues.

I taught myself how to build cues. I figured out how to veneer points and make short-splice blanks...I never bought any. I was doing partially cored cues in 1998, two years after I made my first cue.

I also would be willing to wager that I made my first cue at a younger age than any member posting on this site. I was 19.

When I eventually met other cuemakers, few of them would share any information with me. In the rare event that they did help, it was vague and incomplete information.

:lol: I am not even a cue maker and I got this beat .... built a pool cue in grade 9 (9th grade for yall south of the 49th :) ) woodworking at age 14. It is currently in my garage awaiting spring when it goes back into service as a (43 year old) tomato stake :thumbup:

I also sold three that are still in use when I was 19. So, maybe I should have said that I built cues capable of being sold earlier than others.

I wish you the best at learning and building. Don't go for the strikes. Chalk it up as, it is what it is. We here are not under any obligation at all to give anything, but we do. Sometimes we'll walk people thru every step. Sometimes It's like a first date, and we give nothing. It's all good in the end, and how people react makes a difference on what you get in the future. For the most part there are a few good guys here.

Prefer... sometimes... I wonder if those two different words might just have different meanings.

It was almost 20 years ago that I started making cues and about 10yrs ago when I quit. Maybe I'll pick it up again, I have several new ideas.

That's awesome. Build from your heart, do as much of your own research and development as you can. You'll be a better craftsman for it. Anyone can tell you what to do. It doesn't mean squat til you understand what, how, and why you do it. Use this forum as a point of reference only. View the responses given. Some will help and some will make you laugh. It doesn't take to long to figure out it's members. Above everything else I wrote. Don't fall prey to the people who want to have a pissing contest. Look at the Drama Queens in the main forum. You'll understand.
