AA played the hand well...he obviously bet enough to thin the herd...
...don't want more than three in the hand...in a 'family' pot, AA is favored to lose...
...it's just less an underdog than any other hand.

So after the flop...he's made trips...A, 9, Q, off-suit is non-threatening...so he doesn't bet
enough to scare KJ away....he wants action.

The turn gives KJ a straight...so now the roles are reversed...KJ doesn't want to scare
AA away...AA is aware of the gunshot straight possibility...so he's not going to send it all.

The river seems perfect for them both....AA has to lose his money.

pt....won $38 once playing poker.

...does everyone know why it's called a 'cooler'?...which is what AA was a victim of.

Great. You talked us through what happened.

That's not what I said was it?

No, he flopped a set. Trips are if you have 1A in your hand and 2 on the board.
Jason

There's more than one way to skin a cat....
...and there's more than one way of making trips.

You are wrong
Jason

How can there be a wrong here?........common usage might change by location....
...but from where I am, trips and sets are synonyms.

A2345 is the best lowball hand where I'm from....it's called a 'bike'....
...I have played on the West Coast where it's considered a loser 'cause it's a straight....
...A2346 is the best hand out there.
nobody's wrong here

EDIT...

Aha...I finally thought of googling it...you are absolutely right, Jason,,,,and for a good reason....
Trips are much harder to make...just one in your hand...73.2 to 1....two of a kind in the hole....just 8.3 to 1...A SET
...so they deserve to be distinguished by two different names.

Thanx, buddy, it's a good day when you learn something.

No matter where you are 2 in your hand and 1 on the board is a set, 1 in your hand and 2 on board is trips
