I wasn't around in the 1930's but in the 50's and 60's boys didn't wear a dress - not where I grew up.
Yessss, let the hate take over...
This is a scene from the 1951 French movie, "La Poison". (Actually, pretty highly rated for a film of that period.)
The movie is a dark comedy about a man wanting to kill his wife yet avoid the guillotine at the same time. The scene of the kids acting out the execution is intercut with the trial scene (guy was acquitted after spending 2 months in prison) to mock a legal system that can be so easily manipulated.
Below is a 10 second clip (if it's not too big to post here). As the kids run off, you can see that the child in the black garment that looks like a dress is actually wearing shorts. Not sure what the black garment is for.
