Those cars had a door latch catch about the size of the tip of your thumb in the door jam on the car body. Was located just below the key insert on the quarter panel side. When the car got smacked in the A**, it would push that catch downward making it jam with the opening latch. So not only did the car light up the ga$ tank, you could not get out of the damn thing. Some team sifted through about a million documents and found the internal memo where they did the math and determined it was cheaper to pay off the anticipated wrongful death lawsuits than it was to fix the cars.
