Mets finished the 1981 season with a 41-62 overall record. There was a strike that year, hence the fewer games played.
Due to the strike, there was a “first half” and a “second half” to the season played. Division winners of each half advanced to the playoffs.
Any St. Louis Cardinals fans remember what happened that year?

Yeah we were the best all season and didn’t get into the playoffs. Not as bad as Don Denkinger but pretty bad.

The Denkinger mistake was brutal. Even though I’m a Dodgers fan, I always liked those STL teams of the 80s. Well, not the “Ozzie Smith homerun” team, but the rest of them. LOL
Gibby was the real deal. Even McCarver knew better than to speak to him when it was his day to throw....
