Funny pic/gif thread...

When someone goes to a job interview they are made aware of:
1. The tasks and responsibilities of that job.
2. The compensation the employer intends to pay for said job.

If the employer decides to hire the individual then the individual has the choice to accept or decline the job. Don’t like the compensation? Then don’t take the job. Your inherent liberal self keeps blathering about “a living wage”. Not all jobs are meant to provide a “living wage”.

At the end of the day if the job you take doesn’t provide a “living wage” then perhaps individuals should develop skill sets that are in demand that pay a living wage. To project that “every job” should provide a “living wage” is laughable and smacks of your liberal proletariat views. There are ditch diggers in life, there are CEO’s in life and many other stations in between those two. You want a living wage, develop skills that will get you a job making what you desire. Expecting a “living wage” for EVERY JOB is like the idiots that think participation trophies are a good idea.

A wage is what an employer pays to their employee in exchange for the work that they do on behalf of that employer.

A tip is something provided voluntarily by a customer over and above the actual amount due for services rendered or for goods, food, drink, articles sold or served to them.

So no, nobody automatically "deserves" a tip or gratuity. Like the wage itself, it has to be earned.

I spent a lot of my youth in the restaurant/service industries as I worked my way through high school and college. I tend to be extremely generous and usually over tip as a result. But make no mistake, in the event that the service sucks, any tip can certainly reflect that.

I was at a Chinese place getting lunch the other day and after I ordered the waitress went and sat at a table and watched videos on her phone with the volume blasting. I was 40 feet away on the other side of the room and could clearly hear the videos (must've been anime). After listening for about 2-3 minutes and realizing she wasn't turning the volume down I walked over and asked for my meal to go. When she delivered it a few minutes later she said something to the affect of "in more of a hurry than you thought?", my response - "No, I didn't want to listen to whatever was on your phone". - Tipped zero and walked out.

And before someone says "why didn't you ask her to turn it down"...because I shouldn't have to.

At the local pool hall I go to there are two main waitresses I deal with, one of them is the daughter of the owner (owner is pushing 70 so this lady is early 50's?, the other is just a random girl that works there. Owners daughter does it right, comes to the table and checks on you, refills drinks, picks up dishes, etc. She gets 25-40% tip. The other girl never refills drinks, rarely comes out from behind the counter, etc. She gets 10% and she gets that because she's very pleasant to deal with and is a pretty good bartender in general, she's just not a good waitress and that's what I'm there for.
