I can hear them at the repair shop; "I feel a slight vibration at highway speeds".

A professor from LSU came into my station with a vibration under the hood in his old straight six truck. This was from the sixties when you could actually see the engine. It had three big holes in one side of the block, talking maybe six by six the biggest, maybe even bigger. I could see the crankshaft going around and around and a rod cap and about two inches of rod spinning with it, the piston and rest of the rod was staying up in the cylinder, so far.

A couple days later he came back wanting to know if I thought he could drive the truck to his home near LSU. I told him I didn't know if he would make it but he certainly wasn't going to damage anything in the engine! He decided he could always call a wrecker wherever it stopped if he didn't make it, fired the truck up and headed down the highway. Probably made it in that tough old truck!
