I am very interested in using (trying out) a G-10 Joint. Any experiences out there? Also was curious if anyone has tried the G-10 joint with either phonolic or G-10 layer tried on the box of the shaft to go along with the G-10 Pin? Any info would be greatly appreciated, just sound like a better mouse trap to me? Also has anyone tried this or the combo with a solid ivory joint? Should be an awsome hit.

I have 2 Diveney cues with G-10 pins and solid ivory joints and Morri Q tips, and they're my favorites. It gives a nice crisp hit. I don't understand about the box thing your talking about though with the shaft, could you explain better?

G10-pin with the g-10 pr phonolic isret inthe shqft

bump to the top for anyone tring this?

Just wondering if anyone is building a G-10 joint pin along with a g-10 or phenolic female in the shaft for the sake of the solid hit that would result from that combo, if so I would be very interested in it.

Not quite sure what "box" of the shaft is....
But to answer your last post...a G10 insert is simply not needed with a G10 pin. "Solid" as you say isn't necessarily the best option. If that was the case then everyone would use brass inserts. What you are lookin for is feel & playability. I have used the softer ABS for an insert combined with a G10 pin and it played quite well. I wouldn't build a cue with a G10 pin AND G10 insert.;)

haHA! I have 3 with 4 g-10s total! We love Pat's babies, don't we?!:D

Allright, so yours are worth more $...:o

G -10 Pin

I thought I posted earlier but it seems to not be here so I'll try again. I play with a G-10 pin going into wooden threads hardened with a thin superglue type glue. Ivorene IV collars on the butt and shaft and Ivorene IV ferule. The hit works for me. This was put together on a cheap butt I had laying around for experimentation but I plan to build a full cue for myself using a G-10 pin when I get around to it. For myself, I doubt I ever put another metal pin in a cue. I'm leaning towards zero metal cues anyway.

why use an insert at all? is there a prob keeping the thread with G10

waldos has a good deal on some G10's

i use the same 3x8-10 ss pins now

thinking about trying G10

i would imagine you heave some more feeling in G10 material then a metal pin

Shouldn't be a problem

Shouldn't be a problem keeping threads. I do find the G-10 and wood/superglue connection to be a little bit grabby but I solve that using a clear wood lubricant that is a lot like Slipstic.

Yes we do love them! :D It does not matter how much they are worth, it's the playability and feel, that is Worth the money to me, all the pretty is extra. My first custom cue was a Cognoscenti with a G-10 pin, and fell in love with the hit and feel of a G-10 pin. On my cue in the signature, I have a G-10 Radial pin and I think it has a better feel than his 3/8-11 G-10 pin. G-10 Radial and a solid ivory joint is my favorite set up.

I play with a Steve Klein sneaky with a 3/8-11 G-10 pin and a Predator 314 shaft. Best hitting cue I have ever had. Very crisp, solid hit with a great sound. The combination of the full-splice cue and the G-10 is great. I would highly recommend it.
I had a lengthy discussion with Richard Chudy a couple of years ago at the SBE. At that show, for the first time, all of his cues had the G-10 pin. He said he made 3 identical cues except for the joint. He covered the joint and gave them to numerous friends and pool players and asked for their opinion. Everyone of them said they liked the hit of the G-10 cue the best.

as I understand it, G-10 is a hardened glass or glass epoxy which wouldn't be as hard as Stainless Steel. It would seem that it would be closer to what Ivory would be, yet to me, a SS joint has more feel than an Ivory joint, and according to hardness levels, it should be the opposite.

Are there any durometer readings for Ivory or the G-10?

I, also, wouldn't mind knowing what Steel type is used in SS joints?

Now that is a very good question that I would not even thought of and wonder if it makes any difference, good post!
