Gabe and Manny

I was on the feed at the beginning of the match and TAR said they would pay for the table time if Gabe and Manny played on the table for the match to be streamed.

Hi akaTrigger,
That's exactly what Gabe said too. And as far as the rest of the story, people should hear Gabe's side. There is more to it, but it's not my place to tell it.

hmmmm

So if TAR tells him upfront they will pay table time, if they can stream it, (as akaTrigger heard also) and they streamed it, then why is Gabe catching a rash of crap about it? What if Gabe lost? Would they be ragging on Manny now?

I guess I just don't understand that part.
Maybe TAR will help enlighten the inquiring minds.

Excellent point, they can put this to bed:smile:

Ah ha, there are two sides to this.

Always three sides to every story, Side A, Side B and the truth. Like I said before I have been crossing paths with Gabe for over 15 years and he has always been a claas act win or lose.

JCIN said earlier in the TAR broadcast today (i'm paraphrasing), that whatever the situation was with the table time, there might have been a misunderstanding about the table time, no big deal.

So no problem

Yeah TAR said in the beginning of the broadcast when they were trying to talk Gabe into playing on the stream that they would pay the time.

He's been an ass to them for a while now, this isn't the first time they have butted heads. If I won 5k I would have payed the table, that's just me.

I have to help contend with a few areas of Gabe's career things, so know Gabe has his own reasons too.

Hopefully they'll get their issues worked out one day and everyone will be HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!

But they offered the table time, so he didn't worry about it. They should have just said, "We'll pay table time if we can stream it, but hey, if you win, we need you to pay table time". Then they could go from there.

Because the Gabe I know more often than not keeps his word, so I guess he assumed they would, and just left the building.

Just my 2 cents.

Be nice....ironman has my back!

I love how the guy with 14 posts in this forum can call a professional pool player an ass!
Mr "The Hill", you have just earned some red rep! It's people like you who make this forum miserable for pros.

How can anyone lambaste a professional sports figure for exacting payment for broadcasting their wares to a public audience. In virtually every sport, athlete's always receive appearance money or compensation for the use of their name and/or likeness. In this case, it seems TAR may have agreed to pay the time if Gabe agreed to play on the TV table. Maybe there was a mix up, but this seems to embody the terms suggested by those who have chimed in. If this is the case, Gabe should not be chastised.

As for the rift between TAR and Gabe. I think he is correct to choose not to play on their TV tables during live streaming without first being compensated in a manner which he agrees. Perhaps others have found that promotion of their name on live broadcasts is payment enough. This, still, is not enough reason to chastise Gabe for choosing not to play.

As a professional, I am sure Gabe has experience with this kind of stuff. For example, if TAR offered Gabe a percentage of DVD sales in exchange for his participation in a PPV stream, just because he declines does not make him a poor sport. Moreover, such declination should not be met with grief from TAR. Again, TAR is making money...thus Gabe should have some say in how much his particiation is ultimately worth. In the end, if the two sides fail to agree on that value everyone should walk away friends.

Looking closer at the above scenario, it seems clear that TAR would make money off the PPV stream. That is, if 200 people buy the stream at $25 per person...TAR makes $5,000. Then, later down the road, if DVD sales commence the player (in this instance Gabe) would get a percentage. This seems all well and good, except how is the player to know exactly how many DVD's have been sold? Perhaps, this is Gabe's quandry. It is not that he does not trust TAR. They, clearly are straight-up guys. It's just standard business to know in advance how much you can expect to earn from a given deal before you agree to its terms.

I see an easy fix to push this problem right out the door that I am sure Gabe, and others apprehensive professional's like him, might agree with. TAR could offer a percentage of the paid stream, payable on the last night thereof. This is easily calculable as the number of viewers is evidenced on the stream itself. At the conclusion of the match everyone is paid in full. After all, TAR is paid via paypal on the night of viewing, so should the pro's be. This, plus a percentage of future DVD sales might do the trick quite nicely.

We would not even be having this discussion if TAR provided its services for charity. In such a case, I am sure Gabe would step up whenever needed to do his part and give something back. However, this is not the case. TAR is motivated, first and foremost, by the generation of profits. This fact is decidedly clear given the fact they offer PPV streaming, T-shirts and DVD's for purchase from the public at large. As a business, for profit, they should expect to have to pay for top talent.

All in all, I love what TAR has done and I enjoy their product tremendously. I can only hope that in the future things like this will not be a problem. JMHO

Not like my personal experiences matter, but I've gambled with Gabe a couple handful of times, and other than the fact that he is tough to match up with and a tremendous NIT ;) , he has always been a complete sport.

So you are saying, he won.

Nice post J. Learned Hand. Thank you.

And thank you to several others - including ironman, Thecoats, senor, & EdSimmons.

Well, I sure wouldn't have played him a couple handful of times if I never won! I like the action, but I do have a little regard for money  .

Let's just say I've had my moments but he's had more, I am not ashamed to say.

But, as we know, gambling is one long game and I eagerly await his return so I can throttle him on the golf course. When you can beat 'em at pool, change games!

I haven't seen TAR chime in here. They have not posted here that it wasn't there agreement to pay. The original accusation came from another poster. I would have paid it, but that's me.

Congrats to Gabe for winning, good luck to TAR, and thanks to all of them for providing us with great pool playing.

Since the Fox started and stirred this pot and has an excelent record of posting, seven, could it be Fox dosen't have a clue? Gabe is well on the plus side of our exchanges, there has never been a rift. Lots of swearing but no problems. Oh yeah, and to Mr. If I'd won 5g I'd pay the table time, you have to bet it to win it. Good match up Gabe.

Dido on the red, I'm entitled to my opinion just as much as you are, 14 posts or 1400. I watched the stream and heard what TAR had to say, I've also seen many of Gabe's other performances and I don't like how he acts. Everything I wrote was fact, and as for calling him an ass, that's my opinion.
