Galvaston World Classic press release

They decided to move the dates for the Woman's event.
There was a conflict with the WPBA.

"Taylor Road Productions is pleased to announce new dates for the Woman’s 9-Ball Open event. The previous dates conflicted with a Woman’s Professional Billiard Association tournament, the Colorado Classic, which is scheduled September 16-20, 2009. The new dates of the Women’s 9-Ball Open at the Galveston World Classic are September 11-15, 2009."

I am pretty sure the WPBA's schedule has been out since the first of the year. You would think that if Taylor Road Productions were interested in getting the best women players in the world, they would have checked some schedules.

I guess the 'all finals on Sunday' won't include the ladies?

This Colorado event was NOT on the original WPBA schedule at the beginning of the year and until just a couple of days ago, it was still listed as "tentative" on the WPBA website because contracts were still being finalized.

The promoters of the Galveston event were working closely with the top WPBA pros to ensure that they are attending and to make sure it would not conflict with the dates of the WPBA event...hence why this announcement came out about the same time as the Colorado event's contract was finalized.

common sense for once!

Thanks Cris,

Many of us have been inclined to second guess some of the things the promoters of the Galveston event have done. Certainly sounds like they can't be faulted for their actions here though. Seems like most people set dates and then if they find a conflict they barge on regardless. I have to say it is great to see Galveston show the flexibility to make changes.

My $.02 worth, I think this is one they got right!

So the WPBA stepped on the Galveston dates. Wonder how that makes the Taylor Road crew feel. Ignored?

Wonder if they could make this a qualifier for the top non WPBA finisher? Seeing as how there will probably be several touring pros there. that are already qualified. I think that would be a win win for both. just my .02

I'm wondering how this will affect the one-pocket play scheduled for the same dates? I believe there will be 48 9' tables. Who will get them?

Still no word on whether the one-pocket will be played sequentially to its conclusion, or whether the successive rounds will be staggered throughout the week.

They have stated that each tournament would start and run through until the finals. The finals would be held on the final day.

Not sure how the schedule change affects things as far as table assignment but since they were going to have to use the 9 footers for several events at the same time on the old schedule my guess would be
there will be very little impact. Maybe more effort to keep to a schedule of continuous play.

I'm glad to see that the promoters of this event showed the flexibility to reschedule this around the WPBA event. I'm sure when they scheduled this originally, they saw that the Colorado event was only tentative, and set the dates accordingly in case the WPBA event didn't happen. I'm sure this was a planned for contigency, (the change in dates), so that there would be no conflict. Kudos to the promoters for having the proper foresight to make this change.

A strange world we live in Olliie!!

this game will just never get it's collective SHIT to together!!

As a point of fact: The WPBA had in fact alerted the Galveston promoter's quite some time ago about the potential conflict between the two events and had worked with said promoters to ensure the two dates didn't overlap.
Thank you!
Anne - WPBA
