Gambling and Airballs, dealing with.

I have wagered at billiards "knowing" my skill exceeds that of opponent, and more often than not won... but sometimes your opponent says, "oops, don't have the cash right now..."

What are some sensible ideas from settling up from there, short of Mountain Mike's ideas of getting in the face with cue stick, shoulder, or balls and causing police to come fill out the arrest slips?

This is not unique. Some differentiation between known big players, first-time small money, etc. is expected.

The specific situation (2yrs ago) I faced was a drunk lucked into winning then thought he was hot, so played me next challenger for a buck then lost and went into the back room to "consult his finances" and didn't pay, then 35 min later passed out backwards in his chair with his pitcher of beer !magically! pissed over him, I was nearby, it was magical. And I was somewhat pissed and helpful.
 
all you can do is file it away........never gamble with this guy, never trust him, never loan him a dollar or buy him a drink. If you were gambling cheap, then you learn somebodys character cheap and you got a bargain for your money. If you were gambling big bucks you learn your own lesson, everybody posts b4 you play, or you dont play.

Yes, for a buck asking to post is a bit much. If I turn the guy upside down, no doubt four quarters shake out... but really.

Completely agree, file it away, it was a cheap lesson in how cheap some drunks (and I have been drunk, but not so cheap as to gamble my character {that I choose to remember} away).

When I was 14 back in 1954 I went into a pool hall and wound up playing an older fellow for 25 cents a game in eight ball. He said we would mark it up on the string. Well after beating him for $3.00 he said he would pay me the next day.

I didn't see this guy for two years. When he finally came back in he never said a word to me. By this time it didn't matter to me because I had graduated to bigger games.

This was a good lesson that I learned early. If you don't pay by the game you can expect to get stiffed.

If it's a soft game and the wager is not too large I probably wouldn't ask to post, but if its a hard game and the bet is a fair amount I would ask to post the last game and then pay after each game. I would not break a new game until I got payed for the last game. Many times they stumble around acting like they are reaching for their money just waiting for you to break. If they cant pay then I just take the money posted for the last game.

Any sets worth something I always post. Stranger or not.
 
i awalys post before i play, unless its $10 or something cheap AND with someone I know.

I had a guy run out the door on me once we started at $5/game and it went up I was ahead $110 when we stopped and he ran off, it was my fault-it has never happened to me since.
 
All you can do is take your air barrel sandwich.. Mark it on the books and maybe you'll get paid later and maybe you will not. Either way if you ever gamble with that person again post up no matter what the bet. If you really want to get even make a bet you can't win with him then air him back. hahaha... Not the best option but is fun at times.. :D

stick him with the table time if you're friendly with the counter help and they're sympathetic.

Option 2: the next time you see him visibly put cash anywhere like on a light or whatever... just take it. Lol, ok, that might start world war III, but I've done that with people who owed me money and it worked fine.

option 3: if you're REALLY good buddies with the owner he might agree not to let the bum play until he pays up.
