Gambling scenario

Let's say I'm gambling at the local pool hall and playing cheap to decent size wagers.

Let's say I'm playing races to 9 (9 ball) versus an opponent who frequents the pool hall regularly.

My question is how many sets have to be won by one player in order to make an adjustment.

I'm not talking about stealing from someone and then never adjusting and giving them a chance to get their money back. I want to make a fair game.

Just depends on the players.
If you are winning each set by a score of 9/8, mo adjustment should be made.
If you are winning 9/1 or 9/3 each set, well, an adjustment needs to be made.
In gambling there is no set rule, just wing it.

Another thing to take into consideration....
What are the players skill level. Are you both 500 Fargo or are both of you around 600 Fargo?
With lower rated players if you try to give up the wild 8, it could be disastrous. But for a higher rated set of players, the wild 8 is no big deal.
There are so many variables to take into account.
Do you both have a Fargo rating? If so, you can simply go to the Fargo website and see what a fair match would be.

If you are gambling for more than peanuts and want a fair game you will be the sucker.

Best advice is to watch him play and make your game before you start.

Wouldn't the most fair way be to adjust after every single set?

Start off even race to 7

Set 1 - Player A wins
Set 2 (Player A gives Player B last 2) - Player A wins
Set 3 (Player A gives Player B last 3) - Player B wins
Set 4 (Player A gives Player B last 2) - Player A wins
etc...

I'd say if you're 4-5 sets winner or like 15 games up. Now everyone plays 2 sets and quits sometimes one.

That's gotta be pretty frustrating for you. You probably give some dude like the 7 ball and the last 6 and he quits you after you win the first set. You have to look at it from his perspective though, he spends all of his time watching you NEVER MISS!

On a serious note, if you ever happen to be in Panama City, FL I'll give you a chance to win a few hundred.

I guess Alex is a fool for being stuck 20 games in Vegas once to Shane. Meanwhile he came back and won the set. Maybe it's foolish for people with no heart maybe.

Sounds good easy e I always like to play anytime I can.

if you are stuck 15 games it is almost certain he is playing better than you and likely you wont come back to win. of course sometimes it happens. and if in a long set you have no choice but to continue.
gamblers with so called heart are usually broke. and stay that way. play with way the best of it and stay in money.

There is another thread that says APA is killing pool. This is what is killing pool. "Play with the best of it and stay that way."

I kind of think of it like poker. You gotta give action to get action. If I see you never get off your ass unless you're in a good game why would I give you action?

Or let's say I do give you action and you beat my brains in for 4 or 5 or 6 sets and then the next day I come into the pool room and say let's adjust and you say no do I have the right to call you a nit?

As a matter of fact I might lose those sets on purpose just to see if you would adjust and then when you say no I can call you a nit.

I just want a fair game where either person can win on any given day.

I don't think guys like that care of you call them a nit. For that matter, does ANYONE care if you call them a nit? I never understood why that would upset someone.
