Games With Two Cue Balls?

Is that the game where you have to make 3 caroms in order to complete 1 point?
That game is pretty fun! :)

There is Korean 4-ball, which is a variation on the game of 3 Cushion. Each opponent has their own cueball and must come in contact with the two object balls to continue their turn and gain points, there is no need to contact 3 Cushions during this phase of gaining points. Once reaching their final game point, they must complete contact with both object balls via a 3 Cushion shot.

Here`s a very short clip of a game called "Kaisa" or "Karoliina"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj65KXc70PU

This game is mostly played in Finland and Russia, its a very neat game :)

One rack/frame is played to 60 points, and each ball is valued for an certain point amount, the points from pocketable balls goes like this :

(Every single ball must be nominated/called.)

White ball (opponents cueball)-2 points
Red ball(s)- 3 points
Yellow ball (called Kaisa)- 6 points.

So these are the points of pocketable balls, but you can get more points by caroming with your cueball to the other balls on the table after pocketing the nominated ball. ( Like what happens in the first shot of the clip, he pockets the yellowball (Kaisa) and makes a carom with his cueball to the red ball and the opponents cueball, so he is awarded with 14 points after that one shot, which is the "break" shot or the opening shot of the game.)

The points after caroming balls goes like this :

Pocketing the white ball + make a carom to one red ball= 4 points
Pocketing the white ball + making carom to both red balls = 7 points
Pocketing the white ball + making a carom to the yellow ball = 7 points
Pocketing the white ball + a carom to the yellow ball + one red ball = 10
Pocketing the white ball + carom to the yellow ball + both red balls = 13

Pocketing the red ball + a carom to the white ball = 5
Pocketing the red ball + a carom to the another red ball = 6
Pocketing the red ball + caroms from both white ball and red ball = 8
Pocketing the red ball + carom to the yellow = 9 pistettä
Pocketing the red ball + caroms to yellow and red ball = 12
Pocketing the red ball + caroms to yellow-, red- and white ball = 14

Pocketing the yellow ball + carom to the white ball = 11
Pocketing the yellow ball + carom to the red ball = 12
Pocketing the yellow ball + carom to the red ball + white ball = 14
Pocketing the yellow ball + caroms to the both red balls = 15
Pocketing the yellow ball + caroms to the white ball, and the both red balls = 17

And if you happen to succeed with banking the yellow ball over to the middle pocket, you will be awarded with 2x points, which is 12 points in this situation. The carom points come also here, an the points goes like this :

Banking the yellow ball to middle pocket + carom to white ball = 18
Banking the yellow ball to middle pocket + carom to red ball = 20
Banking the yellow ball to middle pocket + caroms to the both red balls = 21
Banking the yellow ball to middle pocket + caroms to the both red balls and the white ball= 23

(I`m sorry if I`ve missed some point amounts or sth like that, but i just couldn`t remember them all so I had to check them from Wikipedia, and they had been written pretty bad+ i`m sorry for the possible typos and my bad english cause im from Finland)

I hope you guys understand somehow the idea of the game, and I`ll try to get some better video footage for you guys out there of this great game.

And if needed I can answer to questions if u have some.

Thank you.

Bob Jewett wrote an article for Billiards Digest years ago about a game called 2 Ball. ...
I don't recall that, although I did write an article that included both English billiards (which can be played with two cue balls on a pool table) and Cowboy.

I may have mentioned a game called uniards (or three-cushion uniards), which is played like three-cushion billiards but without the red ball. The game is played with only two cue balls on the table. The goal is to hit the other cue ball twice with at least three cushion contacts before the second hit. Mostly, you are "shooting into kisses" which you normally avoid doing at three cushion.

I'm pretty sure it was in your column, Bob. I'll try to find it.

This sounds like an awesome game. The trailer didn't show much. I'm gonna have to do some research on this. I wanta play this.

I haven't found it yet, but it appears that it may have been written by Bob Byrne. I'll have to start over:frown:

I play a game every so often that uses 2 cue balls.. its a variation on carom 8 ball..

for the opening break you place one CB on the head spot one on the center spot and shoot one into the other to break the rack...

from then on you use your cue to strike an OB which must carom off of a CB and into a pocket

we started using 2 CB's because it was too easy to play safe by shooting to bury a CB

a second option solved that pretty well..

its a fun game.. and really develops CB control and mastery of the tangent line..

And I almost forgot to mention these quite important specs of the game....

-This game is played on an 10 or 11 feet table (Pyramid tables go aswell)

- The balls weigh about 200g and their size is 68 mm in diameter ( So about the same as pyramid balls, but they weigh a little bit more)

- The cues used are oftenly 160-180 cm long and they weigh 700-800g, the sizes of the tips vary, but they usually are in the sizes between 12-14mm

And btw, rests are not allowed in this game.

Well, I've gone through Billiards Digests from 1978 to 1996 and haven't yet found the article on the game of 2-Ball.
However, I just remembered this link, which may be the same game, I'm not sure: http://www.fojavi.com/home/pool/2_Ball_Rules.pdf

I'll continue to peruse my back issues, this has me by the short hairs now:eek:, and I'll try to find my copy of the magazine or the scan I made of it.

Note: The rules in the link above mention the WPA, which was not even a thought when I read the aforementioned article.

didn't read though this thread but if I ever play pool again I'd like to try a two-cueball game of one pocket - where you can use your shot to move your oponents CB if you wanted. Should be very interesting.

Very old topic but I have managed to find some good video material of the game Kaisa (Karoliina), the Finnish/Russian game that I wrote about on page 2 of this topic.

The footage has been taken from the 1st annual World Championships in Kaisa, which were played two weeks ago in Kotka, Finland.

I suggest for you guys to watch the video lowest on the page, it`s the final, between Petri Pohjola and Marko Rautiainen.

I use a break cue ball on my home table. After the break I replace it with the playing CB. I then put the break CB on the table at the racking spot to use it as interference ball.
