Gandy Big G vs Diamond

which table wins? Lately I've been hearing from certain people that Diamond's just a fad (which i think is likely false, i like the way they play), and that Gandy was the preferred table over Gold Crowns. Give me your thoughts please!

I've played on a handful of Gandys in a few different pool rooms over the years, but none in that last 20 :). I don't even know if they still make them.

Anyway, when I think of Gandy, I think of a table that feels solid, plays well, and has canyons for pockets. Definitely not a better than a GC IMO.

Gandy was the best inexpensive, 'on a budget' made pool table

but at twice the money, the GC and Diamond are a better choice

imho

NOBODY would say a Gandy plays better than a GC (any model). Diamond is the best table on planet earth, hands-down.

I have to agree with Spider here. Gandys were okay. During the 80s, the Gold Crown III was clearly the better choice and any poolroom that got Gandys did it as a cost-saving measure. With that said, they played very similarly to a Brunswick.

Diamond, on the other hand, is no fad. It's the move. More and more poolrooms are opening with Diamonds. More and more tours are switching to Diamonds. There are lots of reasons for this and it starts with how they play. They're very consistent and easy to maintain. After that, you're looking at a great company with a competitively priced product that's innovative and exciting. Look at the Smart Table and what it's done for bar pool.

I still love playing on Brunswicks and can't knock them at all. They've always been the standard in pool. Diamond simply is better than standard.

th(is/ese) person(s) claims to have had a gold crown in his house and then learned about gandy. and no, they're out of business as far as commercial product, but i hear American Heirloom is their new brand.
And I lol'd at this:"Nobody wants a one piece slate, they're good to play on, but nobody wants to ****in move em! What if you move or sell your house?"
There are some very good condition Big G's 9' for $2400 installed.

This person also says Gandy is the best table ever made, and that he knows a bunch of people in the greater Chicago metro that would never recommend a Diamond.
when he was saying this, he bothered me. but then he told me, "I mean, if you really want a Diamond, I can get you one..."

I'd stay away from that person, really.

Tell your boss that he is a retard.

Gandys blow.
If your boss loves them, believe me, he blows too.

And anybody that can set a table up 'right' also has the 'right' tools to move a 1pc slate.

And and...all Diamonds are not 1pc slate.

oh i know. i told him this and he says "oh, then i guess they wised up" after i told em on the bigger tables it was optional. he doesn't personally move the tables, he's old as farts and has a contractor do it. So i'm not sure why he's even *****ing in the first place. Furthermore, after telling him that i shot on a diamond barbox at another local joint, he comes at me with this: "if i put simonis on table 12--a valley bar box-- it would play just ****in like that diamond." This was at the beginning of my shift, 4pm- ~2am, where the boss is in everyday from noon-4pm, so i just let him leave at that point. "thanks for the insight!"

(ps, normally i patrol my capitalizations, but i'm ridiculously tired about now, after having been up for about 8 minutes prior to starting this thread)

This is not even a question worth asking...

Its kind of like... "Which car is faster.. a Ferrari F-40 or a Yugo"

I mean really?

Diamond is the best playing table on the market hands down.

We're a licensed Joss, Schon, McDermott, Pechauer, Viking, and Cuetec vendor, but the thing he pushes hardest are the ****ing McD Stars..... I mean, I try to like him, but uh.. Well you see what I'm stuck with. I don't mind playing on the Gandys, but I don't know that I want one in my house. Granted, it would be somewhat of an edge i guess, since that's what's in our poolroom. Or maybe not at all, because the action tables both have a mad lean.

Uh, throw a Hayabusa engine in that yugo, we'll see who's talkin shit after the quarter mile! :P
Awesome analogy; thanks!

Meh...don't be too hard on the boss. YOu never know what other people's motivations are and it isn't fair to anyone to assume others are stupid or out to F'ya over. Maybe the margin on one cue is better thann the others, maybe the factory rep is hot and he wants to get in her panties...you never know, nor should you expect to.

What can you do? Do your job, use him for what you can and keep yourself useable to him. tThen when you cant take it anymore, GTFO

At least he chose to open a pool room. Cant be all bad! BEsides, maybe one day he will say the poolroom sucks and he is bequeathing it to you.
(That'd be some revenge on you whippersnappers.)
