GB was extremely polite and well-mannered. Just prior to the match he announced politely, "Before we start, we would like to bet 'just' (emphasis here) a little more. Up to $5,000. Thanks." It was one of the coolest displays I have ever seen in a pool room.

But I'll say this about George, he's a great player, and a great person to gamble with. I've known him since he was 18, and never seen him do anything disrespectful to anyone, gambling or at a tournament. Pretty rare from talented pool players.
I don't wanna say anything that might knock him, if he is out gambling somewhere. But I will say, he works for a living, but is still capable of playing great pool, whether he's played any or not. I have always enjoyed watching him play. He has a great style.

If I remember the story correctly, GB called a foul on himself in an IPT qualifier a few years ago that caused him to NOT qualify at that time for his IPT card. Apparently, the foul he called on himself was such that anyone else watching the match wouldn't have even seen it, but he called it on himself. That says a lot about his character and respect for the game. He did later qualify and win his IPT card.
I remember about 12 years ago he was in the LA area for a while and was finishing in the top 5 in just about every tournament. He wasn't getting past some of the strong mexicans for some reason. Great player though and definately a big heart when it come to big money games. You wont ever see him dog the case 9 for the cash :=)
george is one of my fav ! he is a class act and really good natured.

The first time George came to St Louis, when he was much younger, he weighed more than he does now. When he came back through a few years later and much thinner, I remember him getting one local player that he played on his first trip to give him the 7 ball because he looked nothing like his old self. It was pretty funny when the local figured out he was duped.
I spoke to George recently about some other times I have seen him through the years. He has an uncanny ability to remember a lot of details about many instances. Probably helps him match up better.
