The recent October Billiards Digest column by George Fels contained this beuat about the recent retirement from professional pool of three high profile players: "Frost was also said to be especially disappointed with the failure of the much- ballyhooed Bonus Ball, but anyone with his ability to visualize a few moves ahead should have seen it coming."

Just another example why George's column is usually the first thing that gets read. What a writer.

He's a funny guy, I love his books.

Mr. Fels and his writing are one of the true joys of being a lover of this game. I think you could cure all of pool's ills by putting all of his columns in a book and giving it away to young people everywhere. They wouldn't get halfway through before pool was in their blood, never to come out.

That actually is a great idea!

My favorite billiards writer and I miss reading his column.

After all the craziness written about Bonus Ball here on AZB over the last year-plus, he sums it up perfectly in one paragraph.

Nice.

I guess the article is from the magazine and not from the website, correct?

Off topic, but who were the other two retiring pros? thanks

Mike Davis.... although he has won some events since announcing his "retirement"

Why don't they just announce to everyone that they are getting a job or something along those lines...?

I don't play pool full-time because there is no money in it. Its pretty obvious once you are involved in it for any amount of time..

Unless you like living on $30k a year (minus expenses) and having to make every shot just to eat. :)

Like "Trob," I get my copy of Billiards Digest each month, go directly to the sofa, lie down and turn to the last page of the magazine. I don't have my October issue near me right now--it's probably already in recycling--but the sentence from Fels's article I enjoyed and remembered was the one that listed all the disadvantages right from the start for Bonus Ball, such as no one in the general public having ever played it.

I think, though, we do have to mention Bob Byrne as in at least a tie with George for writing, but of course he doesn't appear as frequently and is usually more technical.

OK, Scott Frost, Mike Davis, and who is the third retiree? thanks
