George "One More Time" Middleditch

this is just terrible, as me and george were real good friends. he was such a great guy, always laughing and making other ppl laugh. he also had a soft spot in his heart for those less fortunate. he donated his time and drove down 2 hours and did an exhibition for the disabled adults that my wife worked with. i just really cant believe this!!:( im gonna miss ya bro!!

Poem

George Middleditch

George was a man of words, and most were very loud,
He loved people, they loved him, and he always drew a crowd.

He always talked of all friends, and the places that he’d been,
He talked of the many missed shots, so close to going in.

As our George went up in years, the sparkle in his eyes,
It never really seemed to dim, but no one was surprised.

He loved the game and he loved us all, and when he shook your hand,
You knew he was a friend for life, one that could always understand.

He had a gruff exterior, that fact you can’t deny,
George would let loose a joke, and you’d laugh so hard you cried.

Now the angels hold a tournament, each year around fall,
And they were short a player, so old George got the call.

So wipe the tears from your face, cause George is up in Heaven,
Probably talking old St. Peter, into giving him the seven

George left a lasting impression on me after I saw one of his traveling trick shot shows. This must've been back in the early 80's. Very entertaining. Sorry to hear of his passing. Condolences to his family.

Just got word on George's memorial service, it will be next Tuesday at Treetops in Gaylord, Michigan. Family will have visitors from 10-5 a service will be held at 2:00pm. Also keep me in your prayers as I have been asked to do a Trickshot show for those in attendance in George's honor. This will be the most important show of my career. Jason

Jason...OMG! :( I have known George for more than 30 years! He was the first of us to have a custom painted van and truck, with a pool table inside, and travel around the country giving exhibitions wherever, whenever. Many times he set up shop in a parking lot and performed his magic for a crowd on the street! What a great guy. He will be sadly missed.

George Middleditch, one of the all time greats and a man that encouraged me every step of the way in my Trickshot career, passed away at his cabin in Presque, MI. He suffered a massive heart attack.

Pool will never be the same without George, his laugh was infectious to anyone that heard it. Under his gruff exterior there was a heart of gold. He enjoyed life and I would be surprised if anyone could say a negative word about George.

At this time we have no information regarding the time of the memorial service. I will post the details as soon as I get them.

Please keep his family and friends in your prayers.

Jason...Wouldn't you know it...I would be there in a heartbeat, but I will be in TX next week (I'm in Louisiana now). Anybody got a jet they want to lend me? Know that I will be there in spirit.

I cant say that I knew him and probably never spoke more than a "hi" when passing but it did indeed seem he was liked by everyone.

George's obituary

George Orin Middleditch left this earth unexpectedly on September 14, 2011. Born in Birmingham, MI. to Roy and Henrietta Middleditch on May 15, 1936, George was 75 “In case your math is bad”. George acquired his education in Gaylord, Michigan where he excelled as an athlete with achievements unchallenged for many years. His passion for billiards took him down a life long professional path. He traveled the country with his pool stick in hand to engage competitors and entertain with exhibitions. He knew the road ways of Michigan better than Rand McNally and was an avid outdoorsman appreciative of Michigan’s bountiful nature. George’s love of music spilled out of his soul on the dance floor. His love for his family and numerous friends was surpassed only by his love for the Lord. If George could talk to us today he would say “If I was any better, I’d be triplets”.

Surviving siblings are Dorothy, Dale (Connie) & Roy Jr. (Judy). George was married, first to Sharon Chapel and then to Judy Canfield. His daughters Susan, Debbie (Shane), Cheryl, Melissa, Cindy and son Kenny survive him. His extended family of children includes Eddie (Sandy), Susan (Jeff) and John (Dodi). George was blessed with 13 grand children and 7 great grand children. Siblings preceding him in death were Harold, Betty, and Mona and his grand son Kyle in 2005.

A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Tree Tops in Gaylord, MI. 10 a.m. ~ 5:00 pm with a service at 2:00 pm

Alpena wont be the same

George made it to every Alpena weekend and always entertained everyone whether they wanted it or not :)

The fun everyone had when George and Jimmy were in Alpena was probably the best. Definitely when George told Earl he was shooting shots wrong was up there in my top 5! You're right Danny, it wont be the same. George and Alpena were one in the same........its going to be a very quiet pool weekend without him but, Im sure somehow he will get people talking and laughing...........he wouldnt have it any other way.

I first want to say how sorry I am to George's family. I met George many years ago in Alpena, Mi. and and the better he got to know you the more he told you. He always was the entertainer and if he was out of a tourney it wouldn't be long before he was doing a trick shot exibition for who ever would watch. He was always helpful to those who asked for it and he had a ton of knowledge. He and Jimmy together in Alpena was a real treat for those of us that do not get to see the champions play and best of all banter with each other and anyone else that would. I told him thankyou last year at the last five man tourney of the year this march that he always went to. I told him he touched so many people and they did love his shows and his jaw jacking most of the time he just laughed and said your welcome. He is a true character and will be missed badly.

George

So sorry to hear about George. He was a great guy who always took time to show an up and comer a trick or two. I can still remember the first time I played him in a small tournament in Alpena. I think he had to spot me something crazy like two on the wire and a break. It was only my first year or so of league play ever so I was young and sloppy. Couldn't run more than 4 or so in nine ball but he didn't know that. I snapped a nine and two combination 9's for the 5-0. He said he should just quit playing with all this young talent.....I knew he was kidding and I wasn't very talented back then but I felt like it after that. That's the way he was, always trying to make you feel welcome in the sport. I just saw him last November for the first time in years and was in the finals of a tournament up that way. Still playing tough. My sympathies go out to his family. Gonna miss you George.......
