pardon my spelling. it's no secret, these are the two strongest countrys today. it would be great to see a mosconi cup tournament between these two countrys!

you've got the usa, tawian, germany, philippines, and the netherlands. they all have great players, but i feel germany has the best. tom storm, ralf souqet, oliver ortmann, thorston hoemann, thomas engert, francisco bustamante. these players are the tops right now. and in straight pool, they will kill everyone.

Francisco is based on Kiel, Germany but when representing
in pool the Philippine flag will always be in his chest...!!!
Unless Fernando Poe wins the Presidency here... :D

Silencer, in view of your rather absurd assumption that Bustamante is German (yes, we all know he has lived there for some of his life). Immonen is a US citizen, but do you really think of him as an American pool player? Parica has lived in California for many years, but don't you think of him as a Fillipino? Now come on.

Nonetheless, your post was thought provoking as it related to straight pool. The foursome of Souquet, Engert, and Ortmann in straight pool is probably stronger than any foursome any other country can produce (though they'd get a run for their money from Varner Rempe, Lane and Robles), and they all finished fifth or better in the 2000 US Open straight pool, the last really major straight pool event. Of the Americans, only Dick Lane and Tony Robles finshed in the top eight in that event. Hohmann won a straight pool event last year in New Jersey, topping Tony Robles in the final. By golly, Germany is best, but in straight pool only.

Taiwan, the Phillipines, and the US are all far superior to Germany in nine ball.

Sigel is still one of the top 4 straight pool players in the USA I would imagine. My lineup would be a little different then yours for the USA and I don't think any country would be a favorite against them.

If you talk 1-pocket the USA would own the world, no country could field a foursome that could take the USA's 4 best.

9-ball, the USA holds its own against anyone, look at the Mosconi Cup's history and who wins, and BTW that is the USA verses Europe, including Germany. You can run off some names from Germany that are great but lets try the USA. Archer, Daulton, Morris, Williams, Deuel, Jones, Strickland, Schmidt, need I go on? cause I can.

Bustamente is a fillipino Silencer, you can keep living in your little delusional world of dreams but look who he plays for in the Worlds, it is not Germany you dork.

Not taking anything away from Germany, but these threads you start are retarded, you are a troll and nothing more Silencer. You get off on stirring up shit by making yourself look like a clueless gimp.

Certainly both Sigel (and Allen Hopkins, too) deserve mention in the company of America's greatest straight poolers. I just ran off four great names in straight pool in five seconds flat. Would love to hear your American straight pool lineup. Don't know if you've ever seen Robles, who ran a 148 in the 2000 US Open, but that guy is just plain unbelievable.

Schmidt, Robels, Sigel, and I am not sure on a 4th, Varner maybe, Rempe is not what he used to be. I would probably find some different 4th though maybe Daulton, he plays all games great. [edit] 4th player I will go Archer actually, anything in a team format when the pressure is on he plays well, and he is lights out atm.

Anybody here wants to put together a world team billiards tournament with a Derby City like format? Maybe AZBilliards Mgt. together with its members should look into putting one together and promoting it. Any ideas?
Here's some for starters:
a) We cannot use the name "World Team Billiards" as it may be registered to the original promoters. I suggest "AZBilliards.com-(insert major sponsor's name) Pocket Billiards World Cup.
b) May I suggest the Philippines as the first venue as video coverage expense is lower here plus the availability of a Philippine cable channel all over the world. I can also arrange for deeply discounted 3star quality hotel accomodations and group plane fares.

What do you think?

after being told countless times, you continue to place busta on the german team. what is your problem!

One pocket team of Efren, Parica, Santos and Busta (yes, he plays it too) would be a very good team as well.

Yup, those Fillipinos would be very tough in a one pocket team event, but if we Amewricans threw Sahnnon Daulton, John Schmidt, Cliff Joyner, and either Nick Varner or Larry Nevel at them, we'd have a pretty realistic chance.

Let's not bust Silencer's chops; at least he tries to make the forum lively. I've a feeling he says controversial stuff just to remain controversial and make everyone react. I, for one, enjoy reading contrasting opinions better than mutual admiration.

As for the topic at hand, I've a feeling the Philippines would have a hard time with that German line-up of Souquet-Hohmann-Ortmann-etc. but given enough chances (like a long tournament with long sets) the Filipinos will win. Especially if Reyes and Parica can put aside their differences. Also, can Pagulayan play with the Filipinos? A Reyes-Bustamante-Parica-Pagulayan (+Sambajon as reserve) line-up would be virtually unbeatable in any game, be it 9-ball, banks, or one-pocket. I don't think even an Archer-Strickland-Robles-Morris-whoever team can beat them, given a long tournament to take the luck factor away.

I might remind everyone that Efren Reyes won the Maine event. The very first time Efren ever entered in a straight pool tournament. In the NY 2000 tournament Efren came in third and had a real chance to win it all. A taiwanese kid Chin(?) came in second and he is not even considered on of the top straight pool players in Taiwan. Efren did not even know all the rules. If he took it upon himself to study the game and work on it for a several months he would mow everyone down. Of course this is personal prejudice as I am a big Efren fan.

Oh by the way Bernie perhaps I can identify with your love for the Germans. I myself love German composers like Brahms and Schubert. My Italian friends think I am nuts and want to kill me as of course they think the Italians are the best. But its just music or pool. It aint Brain Surgery.

..Tom Storm is from Sweden! But´besides that, I would be fun to watch though I doubt that we would have a real chance...

just saw the top european qualifiers for the world pool championships and guess who the top four are? Souquet, ortmann, hohmann, and engert! (not necessarily in that order) I'd say the Filipinos are going to have a tough time to beat these guys!

How much would you like to wager? I will take Bustamente, Reyes, Luat, and Parica. For the cash Germany would not stand a chance.

I would take Bustamante, Reyes, Lining, and Kiamco
Souqet of course they'll have a tough time Engert if I recall was beaten by another pinoy from Canada in WPC Raymond Cruz who was beaten by Souqet in the last 64.
