Get "down" on the cue

The best players...snooker or not... put their chin's on the cue...line it up like rifle sights. Same way "every-time"

I see some tourist that play "Stand-up" pool? Normally lose. It's geometry and hand-eye coordination.

Then how do you explain the best old-schoolers (HOFers) playing at such a high level? I agree getting down is best, but think there's got to be more to it than that...

I play with a guy all the time that is almost completely upright when he shoots and can play lights out. Of course I don't shoot that way but it can be done.

I've found that on the smaller bar box tables it helps ME to be more upright. Everything is so congested so it's easier to see the line.

Buddy Hall for example.

I get down on the cue and drag it on my chin. It helps with consistency.

Get "down" on the cue ?

Having played 14.1 for many years and most shots are close up in that game, the perspective is better being higher off the cue. You can see the edges better for the fine cuts...and yes, those H.O.F. players (Mosconi, etc.) were mostly 14.1 straight pool players!

I play with my chin, ever so slightly, above my cue.

Like Pangit says, "I use my cue like it's a rifle."

I feel it gives me an advantage on many shots.

I've seen everything in my day.

I guess it's all about your comfort zone and how you learned to play.

In my defense. I played three cushion for a period of several years. It's a game you use a more powerful stroke, we didn't have heated tables or fast cloth, it was difficult getting several rails.

Then I went back to playing pool again.

I was still playing upright and I really struggled. My wife took pictures of me playing that way and I saw I was way above my cue stick. I got down to where I am today and played at a very high level for many years.

When someone has doubt as to whether or not they can see a shot they get down real low to look at it. It gives them the best perception of whether or not they can see it. So why not shoot from down there?

I to have seen many great upright players.

Just my thoughts.
