Getting a new cue up to $300.

I'm plan on getting a new cue and have it down to either a
Cuetec R360 or the Meucci Demo Cue with Black Dot shaft.

Any owners of either of these cues can offer me any pro/con comments.
I can't decide, I'd appreciate any assistance.

It means they make them to get your money and they don't care how they play . Cue Tec is chinese crap , and Bob Meucci stopped making cues in 1980 , I knew him . These people pump out cues at a high rate and the quality suffers . How many players do you see using these brands , unless they are paid well , of course . If you can't make 2 balls in a row it doesn't matter what you buy ... You would do well to find a custom maker for your next cue and it may be the last you'll ever buy . This is just my humble opinion and I am a nobody cue maker but I can make 2 balls in a row ...;)

Get a McDermott. Made in the USA. Great customer service, lifetime mainenace plan and a great hit and feel for the money. If you were going for the R360 because of the low deflection get a McDermott with a g core shaft. Low deflection and a great feel for a reasonable price and like every McD guranteed for life against warpage.

My suggestion to you would be to broaden your choices. The way to accomplish that is to post a price range and then compare all that come in at, or near your number. You may be pleasantly surprised at the choices offered to you. Good luck.

I took your advice and added my price limit to my original post (up to 300).

Let me help you out here. Here is what i would look at with a budget of $300 if you are going to buy a brand new cue.
Pechauer- I have one and you won't go wrong with this choice.
Joss-solid cue with years of track record
McDermott-solid cue with years of track record
Lucasi-I have one and they are better then most people think. Overall they are 9/10 of my Pechauer. Might be the best value for the money.
Fury-Heard a lot of good things about them but have no first hand knowledge.

I own a Meucci Power Piston Demo cue. I ordered the cue because it was the only butt I could find to match a Z2 shaft I already had that wasn't too flashy, expensive, or some brand I didn't recognize. I had somewhat specific requirements for the butt.

I haven't played the Black Dot shaft much, and while I don't remember it being terrible, it didn't play well enough to sway me from the Z2. The butt also plays fine mated with an OB-1 shaft I have for it as well. A friend of mine hit it with the OB-1 shaft this weekend and he thought it hit nice... he plays a Southwest. The thing is you're looking at $322 with a 314 shaft and $342 for a Z2. Since I could only recommend it with an aftermarket shaft, and I'm not sure you're willing to spend the extra money on one I'd have to say look into something else. If I were looking for a new cue and didn't want to spend a lot of money I'd probably jump on one of these: http://www.pooldawg.com/product/joss-jos02-mother-of-pearl-circles-pool-cue-stick just a really nice looking stick IMHO and a good quality brand.

But as others have mentioned there are a surprising number of options at $300 and under. Take a look around.

If you do go with the Meucci let me know what you think of it.

I put up the same post on a few different billiard boards and was shocked at all the negative posts on both Cuetec and Meucci.
It has scared me away from getting either one.

After alot of online research, I upped my budget (to it's limits) and settled on getting a Predator sneaky with the wrap / steel joint and 314-2 30" shaft.

No one has these in my area to actually try out - I hope I'm making a good decision...

I have hit balls with that model and I liked it a lot. You won't be sorry with that one.Good solid hit. Way better then a Cuetec or Meucci.

I'd also buy a McDermott. They aren't great collectors cues, but they are really good players cues. I've got a gem that I found on Ebay, it was originally $370 but it was a discontinued model and had a maple shaft (not the G-core), so I paid $160 after shipping. McDermott makes a great maple shaft too, I like it more than my other cues with expensive LD shafts. Good Luck with whatever you decide!
