Getting a permanent marker off a shaft

I have a cue that a owner before me had some pros sign 20 years ago, just wondering if there is a way to take the ink off the cue. I think the signatures take away from the cue if you wanted it to be used as a player.

Are the signatures on the shaft only or are there signatures on the butt section too ??

Well if your lucky sanding the finish off the shaft will get it off, IF its not, into the wood. If it is into the wood it gets a little tricky, Acetone will get magic marker off But it will damage the wood grain. Denatured alcohol may do it to but again it will raise the grain if you keep using it repeatedly.

If its "in the finish", then after its sanded off its only a matter of putting finish on the back of the shaft again. Hard to say exactly without looking at it in person.

If it were me I would just purchase (or make) a shaft to play with and save the original as a collector item. Just a thought....

It is on what I believe to be a Joss West cue, so could not find many shafts around. I thought I would take the cue to the Derby and if Bill attends this year I would ask him if it is one of his cues, if it is I just my put the cue on ebay or sell it on it and give the new owner the option of taking the signatures off. Thanks for all the help. Tom

...............

i would put the shaft up and buy a new one if you want to play with the cue. those players wont be around forever and it gives the shaft a good story. just my opinion

And it is signed by 3 of the best ever. No way would I take those off

I would have one made to suit as well.

Best way to deal with it IMO. I have a shaft signed by Mike Massey and it has been sitting on a shelf for the last 6-7 years and I'll never put it back on a table to play. I made a second shaft and used until putting the whole cue aside to use one I made.

Shaft

The Siegal shaft just throw ugh away!

Seriously sell the shafts with signatures and move on .

I am looking for a Joss West now, however, there aren't many out there, what do you thing a old Joss West shaft with signatures of Sigel, Varner, and Strictland is worth. If it doesn't bring more then $250 then I might as well take the signatures off and use the shaft. At least this is what I am thinking. Tom
