Getting ready to pull the trigger.....

....on a new break cue but wanted to consult this group before I do.

My budget is about 300 but somewhat flexible.

So far I've thought about Predator BK2, Gulyassy, Pechauer, OB Break, Jacoby, Joss and a few others.

I have pretty much decided to go with the OB Break, mostly based on positive reviews, the fact that it already comes with a tip I like and don't have to pay extra to install another tip, and most importantly they are made here in the US and Texas of all things (see my 'from' location to the left).

I am still perfectly open to suggestions and wanted to see what other members had to say about break cues at 300.

What do you think?

I have a Predator BK 2 and have been very happy with it. Although the tip recently came off so I had to put on a triangle so I could use it until I can get a Samsara put on.

That being said, I had played with Predator cues or shafts for years and have changed to OB. I would really like to try out their break cue!

Out of the cues you listed, I prefer both the BK2 and OB because I feel like I have more control of the cueball and they seem a little more forgiving for slightly off-center hits. In terms of customer service, though, OB wins hands down.

I've tried the BK2 and don't think its any better than the Poison VX2.9 I bought. I like the grip on the VX2 better though.

I just got a Dymondwood break cue made by Alex Brick (Brickcues is his handle on AZ) and it CRUSHES racks.

I used to have an OB break shaft on a playing cue that I converted into a breaker. It worked great, but didn't hit the ball near as hard as the Brick. I had him put the Samsara leather jump/break tip on it and I couldn't be happier.

Great guy to deal with, your choice of about 30-50 different color combos, lightning fast turn times (mine shipped out 2 days after I placed the order... it might take a week longer if he doesn't have your color in stock) and it will get to your door for under $300.

Honestly, in that price range, I couldn't recommend any other break cue.

brick gets my recommendation also. I have had mine for about 2 months now. best break cue I have ever used.

I would recommend anything other than a Predator BK2.

I've had one for years and I went through 2 of the BK2 shafts until I realized it's a fragile piece of shit. Anyone with a 30+mph break should stay away from the BK2 because even with the carbon fiber pad underneath the tip, it's not enough to distribute the force of your blow throughout the shaft.

BK2 shafts, like all the other Predator shafts are hollow. They're bored out to have a pretty big recession at the top of the shaft to reduce the front end mass which results in low deflection properties but you sacrifice a lot of structural integrity especially if you have a sledgehammer break.

I like predator products, my main player is a predator... but to roll their "technology" over to a break stick was a horrible idea. It can't withstand massive breaks unless you hit dead center consistently (which no player ever will 100% of the time.) **This is also the #1 complaint about the BK break cues**
^for anyone interested, Predator WILL warranty a cracked shaft if you have been reusing or replacing the cf pad between tip changes, but will not warranty it if that pad is missing. Either way, the Predator BK cues are prone to these stress cracks inside the shaft with or without the pad.

After I went through the 2nd BK2 shaft I didn't bother contacting Predator it's going to be the same story again. I bought a solid maple uniloc shaft to fit the butt and had a phenolic uniferrule put on, hits like a dream and will not explode on you.. you may chip cue balls though

I wouldn't spend your money on the Joss Thor Hammer.
I bought one from Video Gambler one night because it was cheap.

I can put more balls in with a house cue than the Hammer. Nothing special, thats for sure.

I hope this narrows your search down by at least one cue.

I'm also an Alex Brick Dymonwood man... great break/jump stick and under $300 and you can't go wrong dealing with Alex. He's great. I would recommend it.

mezz DI2

If you can get the opportunity, try the Mezz Power Break II with Deep Impact Shaft

It's a bit shorter, but it breaks awesome, and you can get great CB control with it..by far my favorite break cue, imo better than BK2 or any other i have tried

I disagree with most here, as usual.

I like;

Rick Howard break cues www.macecues.com
Andy Gilbert break cues

Otherwise I think you are paying too much for too little IMO.

J use a PB2 that I got for around $250. I love it.if I was going to replace with something different it would be a brick.

Another vote for BK2. I don't own a break cue so I'm constantly trying other people's (yeah I'm that guy :/ ).

I must have hit with 30 different ones, but BK2 just feels right. Perfect weight, grip, right feedback on the hit, no annoying phenolic TINKKKK sound.
